Definitively Dusty

Postby daydreamer » Wed Apr 10, 2019 5:07 pm

I've just had a quick look around and I can't see another thread totally dedicated to the forthcoming three part Radio 2 documentary, apologies if there is.

Radio 2 are trailing the documentary and Tris Penna mentions previously unreleased studio tracks (not his exact words but something similar!)

Beginning on Sunday 14th April at 9.00 pm and then the 21st and 28th. See link below.

It will be lovely to listen to this especially if theres maybe something 'new'. I did hope for a single release that would maybe zoom up the charts to celebrate Dustys special birthday. Dream on!

I think these programmes look good.
I keep hearing the radio 2 trailer as I travel around the area around Henley...seems quite fitting. :note:

Just listen to the previously unheard snatch of 'I'll Try Anything', so different to the finished track. And that speaking voice "wasn't sure, how was that"? These little things mean a lot

I just love what I've heard so far. Hope to be able to somehow listen to the whole thing (bit more challenging if you live outside the UK). Norma told me about the 'special circumstances' when they interviewed her. Which means an American sound engineer was at her house, recording her answers, while Sue Clark was on the phone asking the questions. It had to sound British, so they couldn't use the American guy's speaking voice for the questions! lol

These programmes sound amazing.

I'm really looking forward to hearing them properly.

I note that clip of Dusty talking about the clubs in Belgravia comes from 'The Ultimate Interview' in 1993 - it was printed in DSB 50.

Does anyone know who the interviewer was?

It's so much more entertaining to hear her speak those words [:D] I think the Ultimate Interview went over 3 issues it was so long, but Paul didn't say who the interviewer was. Perhaps he knows, or perhaps the broadcast will give us a clue.

Yes thanks for that Carole,

It is good to hear Dusty speaking those words.

The Bulletin does not give any indication of what it is other than to name it as 'The Ultimate Interview'

Could this have been an interview that was broadcast by the BBC away back in 1993, I wonder.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

I listened to the documentary on Monday morning before I left Ealing after Dusty Day. What an absolute joy it was! Dusty's speaking voice is as wonderful as her singing voice and I did like Keith Altham's quote that Dusty's voice sounded like Marilyn Monroe looked, the childlike quality in them both. The new interview clips were sublime, so funny and witty and her personality shone out of the radio. I enjoyed all the clips of others talking about her and nice to hear Douggie included at last and he and Dusty talking about SA was insightful. She made me chuckle a lot and then I found myself getting emotional when YDHTSYLM began. All in all, so well put together and though I can't imagine the next two episodes having as much lightness in them, the early sixties were as I remember them and I adored listening to Dusty tell her own story.

What a finish to an enjoyable Dusty Day to get home to listen to Dusty recalling her early years. As Carole has said she was so witty and your got a great feeling of her wonderful humour. Oh that we could still hear that today. The iplayer or Sounds repeat is only on for 28 days, unless the beeb put it onto some archive platform. Look forward to the rest of the series.
Thanks Dusty and Happy Birthday!

Wonderful program! It was lovely hearing Dusty speak in her own words about the music and other topics.
Looking forward to hearing parts 2 and 3. Magnificent vocalist and lovely woman.

I was absolutely thrilled to be able to listen, although I'm outside tWhat a wonderful programme! As has been said before, Dusty's speaking voice is delightful to listen to, and the way she's funny, witty and yet insightful about her life is intriguing. Looking forward to the next episodes!

Episode One, Island of Dreams, was a revelation! I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next two episodes.

It's always amazing how little bits and pieces are clarified and revealed in these shows. So well done! Bravo!
