I was actually awake this morning to listen to Tony B and his Dusty track!
Also watched the 5 and the caravans! Took me back to when we had a touring van though we would not have taken ours down that narrow road...unless of course I had got us lost, which happened a few times...lol

It was pulling a caravan what did for the Reliant [;)]

2 am, It's hot and I can't sleep - switch on Radio5 Live and there's Dusty. Nearly an hour of discussion on DIM. Needless to say I listened and eventually fell asleep.

Here's the link whiz along to 1.05 (news1.31-1.36) starts again with WOYM.

Well I was awake and struggling in this heat at night to try and sleep, if i had switched it on it would have driven me mad as I thought it was a badly managed segment. Talking over each other and meandering about .
It was a well meant but poorly executed session.
The good side being we got to hear that wonderful husky Dusty and she was never meant to be compared to Aretha as a singer. Dusty was not a gospel singer so it was always ludicrous and didnt do her low self esteem any favours at that time when the album wasnt successful .
It is a great album as has since been proved by its lasting success and Dusty was incomparable then and now.

Liz, I quite agree it was not the best of radio especially with the poor narrative. Glad that full tracks were played.
Very strange when a "reggae" version of SOAPM by AF was played .
Take the talk out and it was a great listen! :note: :star: :rose:

just had a little bit of a dusty moment, I was sitting here mulling over the sad news about Aretha dying, and I thought two things, first the story about them in a lift, and then I thought of the line from yesterday when I was young " there are so many songs in me that wont be sung", anyway, ive got all of dustys albums and bozsets on iTunes and im on random while I cook tea, and what came on a few minutes later, YWIWY

Johnnie walker show on radio 2 this afternoon..... he has a request each week for a fav to be entered into his jukebox.
This week it was " i'm coming home again". It was the choice of Pete the session drummer who said he played on this in bbc studios when Dusty sang it and had loved her voice in his headphones. [ear]
Its about 25 mins into the start of the show.

Just had a Dusty moment out of left field. In this video about Jimi Hendrix' first "official" gig, at London's Cromwellian club (Jimi had played The Scotch Of St. James before he had a work permit), Brian Auger talks about the venue as a gathering place for the who's who of Brit rock. He mentions Dusty at the 3:00 minute mark:

Yesterday on radio Wales Owen paid trbute to Clive Westlake, saying that it was all very well loving singers but they needed great songs to sing and Clive had a great career. He started with Dusty ICMEACTT [yahoo] and mentioned All I see is you [yahoo] then he played here I go again from the Hollies and ended with Cliff Richard , Constantly.
He talked about Clive living in Nashville after his success with his early songwriting years.
It was a nice little clip. [ear]

" She was a wonderful singer and a very nice person as well." That's what Tony Blackburn said on his radio 2 sixties show. He had played IOWTBWY.
Then radio 2 pick of the pops played a chart from 1969 and Dusty of course with SOAPM.

Had a different kind of Springfield moment yesterday. Went in motorcyle showroom yesterday to see the beautiful Indian range of motorbikes. They are a work of art just gorgeous.
My favourite of course is the Springfield dark horse.
When i first joined ltd the much missed Rob very kindly came to meet me at the local coffee shop and we chatted about Dusty etc. He was then going to this motorbike showroom to look for a new bike, i bet he would have loved these Indian bikes. Especially the vintage one and the Springfield one.I cant put the picture on sorry as it says file too big. [:)]

Having never heard of the Indian MC Co did a bit of searching. Here's the "Springfield".

Knowing of Dusty's love of speed I think she would have approved.
I bet they give Harley-D a run for their money!

Well what a surprise..on desert Island discs on radio 4 Cressida Dick the Commissioner of the Met police just chose Dusty " in private" She said she couldn't go to a desert island without Dusty. Admired her comeback with the Pet shop boys, even though it was all too brief after coming through difficult times in her life.
Never thought she would be a Dusty fan.

Dusty & the other Brit girls were who made the '60's so special. For so long girls had been regarded as 'Second Eleven' but no more! They were out and there was no going back.

On radio 2 Ken bruce show this morning, Al Murray was choosing in " the tracks of my years" section and he started with the Pet shop boys, its a sin and then his second choice was SOAPM.
He said his kids had started playing stuff from the 60s and back and chose her as a fav. He noted her collaboration with the PSBs and said she was the soul voice of the UK and the song was perfect. [:)]
Ken agreed he had great taste. [:)]

He also mentioned Clive westlake as the writer as he was from Wales.
It was great to hear it today of all days.the show is 9am til 11- 30 Sat radio Wales and he plays it about 2 hrs 12 mins in from the start. He plays mainly sixties stuff its always a great show and he does a second one on Sunday from 11am til 1pm. :bravo:  [ear] [yahoo]

Re: Dusty Moment - Tribute To Hal David on PBS

Postby edjames » Wed Apr 03, 2019 7:56 pm

What the World Needs Now: Words by Hal David hosted by Bette Midler.

PBS presents a special devoted to the music/lyrics of Hal David.
Check your local listings for various viewing times.
Shown here in NYC on WNET Channel 13 Thursday evening. April 4 at 9PM.

Guests interviewed for the program include Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Valerie Simpson, B. J. Thomas, music writer Francis Davis and NPR’s Terry Gross, along with a cavalcade of music-clip performances from Aretha Franklin, Cher, Barbra Streisand, B. J. Thomas, Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones, Jackie DeShannon, Glen Campbell and, of course, the fabulous Warwick, who is the inspirational muse for almost the entire Bacharach-David songbook.

I am not certain which video clips of Dusty will be shown but it looks like Look Of Love and Wishin and Hopin.
