Yum yum (gimme some)

Postby Brian » Thu Jul 05, 2012 6:54 am

Today is the 75th anniversary of 'spam'....not rubbish from the internet, but the meat. I have no idea how it's made, but I do have dreadful flashbacks of being forced to eat it when I was a child [V] . It appears to be a cross between ham and some sort of glue seasoned with salt and some other herb which can be used in euthanasia procedures [}:)]
So - do you have memories of spam ?...do you actually LIKE spam ? ..please convince

I remember eating this Brian. It made a bit of a comeback recently. Haven't been tempted to buy it though! Has a horrid pink hue doesn't it? Cue Monty Python!

[8)] That's funny Brian. I thought it was salt flavored with ham, and that formaldehyde you mentioned. [xx(]
Frequently on the menu at boy scout camp. It probably has a greater shelf life than I do.

I wouldn't dream of buying Spam (Spiced Ham) these days, but remember having battered spam for lunch practically every day in the cafeteria, when I first started work.
Why?: Because it was the cheapest thing on the menu !

I see they've finally seen sense and given it a ring pull lid, not like that key that you had to twist round the middle of the tin. Getting the stuff out of the tin was like pulling a rotten tooth - half of it comes out and the other half stays firmly put [}:)]

There was talk a couple of years ago that they were going to stop making it. But there was a huge outcry from live alone elderly men they decided to continue it after all

I don't mind the occasional spam sandwich, though it's a bit too salty and slimey to eat it regularly.
