I spend most of my life trying not to think about my own demons, and i tend to do the same with Dusty and hers, everyone is entitled to discuss what they want about her, thats what we are here for! But for me, ive read the books, and put them away

daydreamer...agreed in general, and it's true that some are coming to awareness of Dusty and what they read, etc. Everyone is at different stages...she was who she was-eh? Hopefully you are able tp accept all sides of everyone, just as you have Dusty's.

I don't need to unless they're a part of my life. And if I like them and they do me no harm, then sure, why wouldn't I? Dusty is a big part of my life and has been since 1962, that's why I accept her for what she is, I grew up with her.

Oh dear, im not admin, but, you are only 12 posts in and you seem to me to be a little on the rude side, for want of a better expression, I wouldnt normally post anything like this but I find it uncomfortable to see established, important members, whom we have learned so much from, being dismissed in that rude offhand way, this is after all a friendly forum and not a war zone, you are in the wrong place if you think that is how our fandom works. I dont think anyone has managed to piss me off as much as you have in such a short time ever before

Actually, I am in the wrong place with this forum...sorry to have obviously offended the three of you (or more). There doesn't seem much room for descent...using the word "rude" is interesting...there have been several run off this forum for descenting views through some rather rude remarks as if they don't have a right to an opinion. That's what I was attempting to say to daydreamer. Sorry to have registered actually....I think I'll go get a life now!

Wow, that was a long post.
In addition to Markus’ thoughtful reply, I’d just like to add that many fans use Dusty to project their own lives on, in order to understand themselves better. Especially when they find similarities between Dusty and themselves. And there is nothing wrong with that. But one has to bear in mind that it is based on speculation and that it says more about them than it says about Dusty.

First I have to say, again, that there's isnt anything dismissive about Corinna's comment, although ifyouknew's (knew what?) comment about my dissertation was!

I oversimplified things by saying it was about projection. It is about how fans find in Dusty (her music, her life) a part of themselves that they identify with, and through this their lives are changed profoundly.

The suggestion that some fans know the truth while others are just .... Fill in the blank....idol worshippers,
academics making things too complicated, people who can't brook disagreement...is silly really. As for
"descenting" (I assume you mean dissenting) fans being run off, nothing could be further from the truth. On the
other hand, there have been several shit stirrers through the years who have driven people crazy with their attitude, who were given warning after warning, before their membership was deleted. And some members
leave for opposite reasons than those implied.

It's not so much the content of the disagreement as it is the attitude/tone that creates problems.

As an admin, I'm sorry I haven't been able to step in sooner...I'm on 'vacation,'with my partner and her
octogenarian parents. I think it's best to lock this thread. And I'm sure any request to no longer be a member can be accommodated.
