A nails' riddle

Postby Corinna » Sun Apr 22, 2012 7:02 pm

Somehow, I assumed the nails I've won were from the sixties. Probably due to the "pink pearl" colour, which it says on the plastic cover.

Now I've discovered this: The four nails that are of the "pink pearl" colour, don't seem to have been used, as there is no glue on the backside. The nails that do have glue, are of a slightly darker colour, but with pink pearl under. One nail is chipped, and the pink pearl colour shows through.

On the package, it looks as if the nails were manufactured in 1979, possibly in May?? I've circled in the date, on the lower left corner. (Though isn't it odd to give the month of the production on a durable product? I mean, it's not exactly feta cheese.... :?: )

Anyway, assuming the nails are in the correct plastic pack which in its turn is in its correct wrapping, then the nails were manufactured and probably used ca 1979. And since Pat had them, I guess they were used in the UK. Now I'm trying to circle in WHEN they could have been used. Of course, she could have used them at a private function, and that we will never know. Some of the performances that the bible gives for 1979 are on YouTube, but it’s hard to tell the colour of her nails! It could have been RAH, where her nails also are hard to see. The only picture I’ve found from around that time where the nails show, is this picture from a DSB cover (cropped). Not quite the same colour, but close.

I wonder if anyone has a picture of Dusty with nails of the colour that I have? I’m planning to make a display with the nails, and I want to get the date of the picture that is going with it right, approximately anyway. So, any help is appreciated!

Signed Nail on the Head

For a lot of the sixties, Dusty appeared to have natural, usually pearlised, nails, I'd say it was about 68 that I first noticed the long false ones. I'll keep my eyes peeled for pictures for you Cor [:)]

I have this pic, but can't decide what colour the nails are, nor the year, probably too early?

Thanks for this photo, Cas. I didn't have it in this size or good quality! Those nails ARE scary, aren't they?

I have this theory that Dusty used light nail polish (pearl pink) in the Sixties, and changed to brownish colours later, possibly late Seventies. Which means the darker nails now in my possession would be of a later date than the Sixties. :pensive:

Cor- look at that picture you posted...

and now, imagine the nails you have are, in fact, those very nails in the pic. [:o]

my first thought, of course, would be..."ok, which nail is that nail!?" [;)] [:D]

interesting that you found the pink pearl colour underneath the darker nails. Photos from that period sometimes have a tint to them, so it's very possible the colour is even closer than it appears.

You're right, that picture could of course have been manipulated, so the nail colour would look different... :pensive:

I'm a little intrigued by these nails also. They look to be of the right colour, anyway...

That is just weird! I was just watching that exact clip on YouTube and thought of you and nails. But I get here and you've thought of it first [:D]

Really?! [:)] [^]

I have developped a bit of selective perception, checking the colour of Dusty's nails! [:D]

I had this amongst all the stills I have Cor, and it kinda does show the nails are the colour of the ones you now own.

I'm so loving this and want the LTD search team on the lookout for my nails (and jacket). Shall I make separate threads?

Cas that's a fabulous still, and the colour looks right, too! Thank you! So it seems I'm right in assuming they're not 60s nails.

Nancy, yes, why not start new threads for your items, so the search results of the detective work don't get mixed up. I'd love to hear more about your jacket and nails!

I've made a little display for my the pearl pink nails and lashes. It's not up on the wall yet, but I'm already thinking about another display for the darker nails now! [:)]
