I purchased this book using the discount voucher which Lucy offered at DD this year. I received it via post on 21/
8, being one day prior to publication.
Having not read the first edition I was pleased that the concentration of the book was on Dusty and her music. There was little that was new re Dusty's life, but interesting views of many who worked with her in the studio. Some had initial problems but ended up loving her and appreciating her deep understanding of music.

Good to read a book without delving to far into Dusty's personal life.
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be.......
..I'm goin' back.

Hi Douggie

But will we live to see it? At this rate I have my doubts.

The book arrived yesterday, I wasn't going to bother with it having already got the first two versions but then I won it in a facebook post [:)] I haven't read anything yet but if the captions that accompany the photos are anything to go by, the revisions don't bode well. Simon Bell is said to be Dusty's manager, a photo from 78 is captioned as the 60's, a poll concert photo is given the wrong date and so on. Also, though I'm no expert on discographies, I'm not spotting much in the way of 'revised' from the 1999 version.
There's a part of you, that's a part of me...

Hi Maggie

Maybe before I go I could have a brain snap.
Forget my better judgement and throw lots
of things out there just for the hell of it.
I wonder what would happen??
Maybe people will then understand.
But I doubt it. Too many minds are made up.
It would be good to live to see it though.

Hi Douggie
I think you should....minds can be changed but only if alternative facts are put into the mix!
Dusty deserves you to do this [:)]

Another dreaded book or a revised book that seems to have been influenced by THE VW ONE this time of the Daily Mail article is anything to go by.
Who suggested that Lucy should be invited to Dusty Day. Ns he claims to be a fan but only a fan of the dark side rather than the iconic music.
In my mind the Sharon Davis book is still the best read and the most genuine!

At the risk of repeating myself..... I wish they would all leave her alone.
"every day I find you're in my heart and on my mind"

"she was the very essence of fabness""

" its nice to rest for awhile thank you "

Not to belabour the point, but I've always thought Dusty made a critical error in demanding discretion, and silence, from her friends, both in the UK and the US. The only ones' who have honoured that oath of loyalty are the very people who could come to her defense. The others have proven their lack of caring - and character.

Hi Maggie

I will just say that Dusty never demanded anything from her friends.
It was just given out of their love for her, and as the song said "That's What Friend are For".
I think her friends understood that very well, where as many other sang a different song.
They all seemed to contain sadly another word like Money. She was normally very good at
summing people up. However even though she was a perfectionist, she did make the odd mistake.
Most of her friends did what they thought was the right thing. Where as some used it for self promotion.
Sad really!!

Hi Douggie

Towards the end of her life, in the eighties and nineties, she did ask several people to remain silent. At least that's the response I got when I was trying to get information to confirm what I believed had gone on in the seventies. But I'm also sure that, as you say, she didn't have to ask most of the people who genuinely cared. You just knew what she wanted. I guess I wish she had said "If anyone speaks unkindly of me you have my permission to shout the truth from the rooftops."

Best,

Maggie

Hi Maggie

It was a shame that our contact at the end of her life was not what it had been before.
I have at the end of my posts a saying I adopted for a reason.
It is to say no matter what you may hear or believe "The Truth is out there".
Which I think maybe one day it will be, but may include All as the first word.
Far too many people have their minds made up because of books that have been
put out there. Together with statements and articles from the papers which in some
cases are pure conjecture. People should look much deeper into her life and find out why
some of these things happened to her.
I always think of an American physics professor name Julius Sumner Miller who had
many television shows throughout the World. He had a saying "Why Is It So". He was
trying to say Don't just accept everything without question.
We all know now that smoking is bad, nobody questioned what smoking would do
to our bodies years ago. Till the question was proposed and put forward.
"Why are so many people who smoke having heath problems"?
They found out because someone asked "Why Is It So"
The main answer was Smoking kills people.
There are other parts of the Dusty's story that are not being told or even thought about.
Either through choice, ignorance or more that likely bad or no research.
I did drop a few clues on the radio interview for Dusty's 80th, I don't think they were picked up.
Some good researcher may come along sometime who finds what is missing!
It all has to do with research, and it seems to me to be in short supply.
I sound like I'm preaching, sorry about that. Don't ask "It's just passion".
Sorry about going on.
I do get your point believe me.

All the best

Douggie xx
