Dusty's 20th Anniversary

Postby humboldt » Sat Mar 02, 2019 1:08 am

20 years ago today we lost the greatest female UK singer ever who was a good friend and supporter of Motown.

This has been my fav Dusty song since 1964 when it was released as a single.

Dusty yesterday, today, tomorrow. :rose:

Dusty Springfield 16th April 1939 - 2nd March 1999 RIP :rose:

I'll never forget receiving a phone call during the evening of the 2nd March 20 years ago and even though I knew Dusty was so ill, being incredibly shocked and upset. The 20 years since, I've made so many friends through Dusty and lost some special ones too but I'll always thank her for what she brought into my life both before 2nd March 1999 and after. We will always have the music and the memories.

I will be forever grateful that Dusty found me, and just as grateful for all the wonderful people she brought with her into my life, the last 20 years would have been boring as hell without my fandom, I love you Mary xxxx

I can't believe it's been 20 years. It was about that time I was first given Dusty's name and started looking a little into her. I did find out about her condition too. I found the news out on one of our statewide radio stations...usually they play a snippet of a popular song before announcing one's passing...in this case, they used SOAPM...which I actually never consciously heard before, but I just knew, somehow, what it meant. Confirmed sadly by the reporter's announcement.

On one hand, Dusty has been gone from this earth for 2 decades. But on the other hand, I've been a fan for 2 decades as well. As it always has been, it's a mixed anniversary.

A little late be me, but remembering Dusty on the 20th anniversary of her passing. Listened to several albums over the last few days including Dusty Definitely, what a great album.
