Another digital album of material from The Springfields is issued today under the title Love, Incorporated. Yes, you have guessed it! It's eight tracks from Kinda Folksy plus the same four tracks from 1962 singles. Also, it has the most unattractive artwork I have yet seen for these compilations

Released yesterday according to Amazon UK, Expensive Bling is the latest download album of material by The Springfields. It is the usual formula of eight tracks from their Kinda Folksy album and four from 1962 singles. At £9.99 it certainly is expensive!

The latest download album of material by The Springfields was issued on 27 April as Best of Dusty Springfield. It comprises the 12 tracks from the Kinda Folksy album. If the artwork below looks familiar, that's because the same company previously issued it on 11 September 2014. The only difference is that it is now £1 cheaper.

I debated about adding this to a "Springfields" thread but I feel it deserves to be here as it's likely a grey market release. I'm interested to know if it will be the same (re)mixes as the 1997 "Girl Called Dusty" CD or whether they'll use the originals. It's due for release: 29/05/16.

Given it has the same bonus tracks, my hunch is that this is simply a download version of the 1997 CD issue of AGCD.

No, it's a CD. And while it features much the same track line up as the 1997 CD, it's not identical. I have a vague recollection that remixes may still be in copywright if done long after the original mixes. If that's the case, the alternate mixes and remixes on the 1997 CD may not be on this likely grey market release.

Sorry I didn't spot that the bonus tracks were not identical to the 1997 CD re-issue.

I think the copyright issue should not be in point here, as any recording issued on or after 1 October 1963 remains in copyright for 75 years from its date of first issue. Therefore, all twenty tracks are still in copyright, whether they were first issued in 1963, 1964 or 1997.

I am inclined to think that this re-issue has been authorised by Universal. Firstly, the front of the CD booklet has the line of multi-coloured overlapping circles which was a trademark of Mercury/Philips in the States. That trademark will have passed to Universal when it acquired PolyGram. Secondly, the inlay card from the back of the CD case shows the trademark of the Japanese rights organisation JASRAC, which presumably means that Oldays is paying royalties to the various rights holders. Thirdly, I have tried to check out Oldays Records and what I have found suggests that it is a well-established re-issue label.

That leaves us with your original question about whether some tracks on this release are the originally released takes or alternative takes first released in 1997. I think we will have to wait for an LTD member to buy it and tell us.

I was just about to post that a whole month had gone by without a re-release of material by The Springfields, when notice came of another download album of their recordings.

This is titled Joker and is released today. It has 12 tracks, made up of eight tracks from Kinda Folksy and four from singles released in 1962.

The 12 tracks from The Springfields' 1962 album Kinda Folksy have been re-packaged again as a download album. The compilation titled Secret Meeting was released yesterday. The entry on Amazon UK shows some of the tracks as being credited to Dusty and the remainder to The Springfields.

Don't get excited for it is subtitled The Early Years 1958-1962 featuring The Springfields & The Lana Sisters. No track listing is shown and the CD is being released by Hoodoo Records.

The album's subtitle would suggest that it wholly material from 1962 and earlier, which is, of course, out of copyright. However, There's A Big Wheel is not out of copyright as it was issued in 1963.

The artwork carries the words 'The Definitive Remastered Edition', a bold, if meaningless claim.

The download version of the CD is released today. It has 23 tracks by The Springfields and seven by The Lana Sisters.

It has only eight tracks, seven of which come from the Kinda Folksy album. The other track is Island of Dreams. Amazon are selling it for £1.79.

Three download albums were issued on 11 August by The Music Shed. They carry the titles Buzzin', Dear Hearts and Gentle People and Goodnight Irene. Each album is credited to DS, but is a mix of material by The Lana Sisters and The Springfields. If the album titles and the artwork below seem familiar, that's because they are a re-release of download albums originally issued by Rapier Music in March 2014.

The latest download album of material by The Springfields was issued on 24 August by Belle Wood under the title Pina. The twelve tracks are made up of, as usual, eight tracks from the Kinda Folksy album and four from singles released in 1962. It is always the same four tracks, namely Goodnight Irene, Gotta Travel On, Silver Threads and Golden Needles and Aunt Rhody. At £9.99 for just over 27 minutes of music, it is quite a rip-off.

Two more download albums have appeared.

Pop Elite: Best of Dusty Springfield was released on 15 September. It consists of eight tracks, five of which are by The Springfields with the remaining three tracks being by The Lana Sisters. If the artwork seems familiar, it was used for Pop Elite: Best of The Springfields issued in the summer of 2015.

The other compilation was issued yesterday (18th) under the title Beach Promenade. It consists of the twelve tracks from the album Kinda Folksy.

What a bizarre name indeed. I'm guessing these re-releases are because the songs have fallen into the public domain? Strangely enough a similar thing seems to have happened to some of Nina Simone's recordings.

The latest download album of material by The Springfields is released today under the title Christmas Greeting.

The title suggests an album of Christmas music. Anyone buying it under that impression will be sorely disappointed. It consists of eight tracks from the Kinda Folksy album and four tracks from 1962 singles, none of which has any connection with Christmas.

It's a bit like buses. Nothing for ages, then two come at once.

Hot on the heels of yesterday's release, Christmas Cards is released today as a download album. It has the twelve tracks from the 1962 album Kinda Folksy, albeit in a different running order. Again, why use 'Christmas' in the title when none of the tracks has anything to do with Christmas?

I spotted this the other day on US Amazon, but didn't post as there no info other than title and price and the projected release date was so far ahead. Somehow I can't see audiophiles into heavyweight vinyl clamouring for an LP of The Springfields. Makes you wonder who this is targeted at.

All the singles issued by The Springfields, with the exception of If I Was Down And Out/Maracabamba, are now out of copyright, so the album's compilers would be able to include all the singles from Dear John to Come On Home without a licence from Universal.

Thanks Jim, it will be interesting then to see which ones they use. Not that I will be buying it, I can't see myself ever getting back into vinyl.

I would think that most Springfields fans would now prefer CDs, certainly in preference to downloads.
There have been so many download compilations that have been recorded on this thread and with such strange titles it is bewildering and I would guess some of them haven't had a single sale .

When I think back to the 60s and 70s, when I was buying vinyl, my main memory is of the number of faulty LPs I bought that had to be returned to the retailer. I think it is great to buy CDs which have a 99.99% chance of being flawless. I am sure that vinyl quality control has been greatly enhanced since then, particularly since it is now the chosen medium of audiophiles. That said, I have no desire to go back to vinyl.

On the other point you make about the proliferation of download compilations, there have been just over 200 download compilations of Springfields' material since I started logging them in July 2014. That averages out at around 80 per annum. As to what you say about the likelihood of some of these compilations having had no sales, we will never know. However, someone must be buying some of them; otherwise the releases would have dried up by now.

The great majority of these releases are credited to DS rather than to The Springfields and their artwork features Dusty rather than the group. It makes me wonder whether a significant proportion are bought in error.

Silver Dollar is a 22-track download album released yesterday. It has 10 tracks from Kinda Folksy, 11 from Folk Songs From The Hills and My Baby's Gone, an out-take from the Nashville sessions, first released in 1997.

I'm kind of surprised there haven't been more Springfields CD releases (as opposed to downloads) in the years since their recordings entered public domain.
I can think of at least three that I would buy if they had their original artwork

Folk Songs From The Hills (original LP )
Silver Threads and Golden Needles (the US LP)
Christmas with The Springfields (I know this was only an EP but I can think of enough compatible tracks they could add to make a 12 track CD)

Clive, someone is selling one of the LPs on ebay at present:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Springfields-Folk-songs-from-the-hills-L-p-Philips-632304BL-/122370085145?hash=item1c7dd35119:g:35IAAOSwgmJXzvPh

Haven't seen the US LP around recently.

As for a CD of the Christmas material, I wouldn't hold your breath. If you don't already have it, the DSB CD is your best bet.

thanks Jim, I was meaning CD re-issues of those LPs.

I know I have all the tracks already, just something about having the original albums on individual CDs appeals.

I do have the bulletin Christmas CD but I kind of like the EP cover , would be nice on a CD front cover.

So many artists have Christmas albums I always think it is a shame the Springfields are not there on the CD racks in shops at Christmas.

No artwork shown but presumably will use the original album cover.

All I have been able to find out about this release is that is being issued by a company in The Netherlands by the name of Vinyl Passion (not to be confused with UK company of same name which makes turntables).

Released on 10 April, The Springfields Sing Again is a straight re-issue of the Kinda Folksy album as a download with all twelve tracks in the original running order. The very first re-issue of Kinda Folksy was in 1966, when Philips released it on their budget label Wing, Coincidentally, that had the title The Springfields Sing Again.

Two download albums are scheduled for release on June 18.

Chimes of Arcady has 33 tracks, 14 by The Lana Sisters and 19 by The Springfields.

Silver Dollar has 32 tracks, all by The Springfields. A different compilation was issued under this title on 22 February.

Both albums use the same artwork with an odd spelling of Dusty.

A download album was issued on 11 August under the title Great Folk Songs, which has 24 tracks. Twenty-three of the tracks were issued in 1961 and 1962. The one track from 1963 is Little By Little. However, the most interesting thing about this release is the artwork, which I suspect is a shot from Karen Noble's tribute show.

There are so many downloads and streams you can do for the Springfields, but if you want all the songs in one place then I thoroughly recommend "The Springfields on an island of dreams". This double CD has all their Philips UK recordings 1961-64, a total of 47 tracks.

Just in case anyone thinks otherwise, I am most definitely not recommending the various download compilations I record in this thread. My purpose is only to record their existence, expose the paucity of imagination in compiling them and have a laugh at some of the titles and artwork.

Like Pat, I do recommend the double CD set On An Island Of Dreams for anyone wanting to collect material by The Springfields. The companies issuing the bulk of the download albums are merely trying to make a quick buck from recordings which are now out of copyright.

The latest download compilation, issued yesterday, rejoices under the rather ungrammatical title of I Love This Songs.

Its 24 tracks are split 13 by The Springfields and 11 by The Lana Sisters. None of the material by The Springfields is later than 1962. I haven't a clue as to the identity of the woman in the artwork

With a gap of two months since the last download album of Springfields' material, I was beginning to think that the well had run dry or, more likely, the law of diminishing returns had set in.

However, to prove me wrong, a 25-track compilation was released under the title Greenback Dollar on 14 November. The bulk of the tracks come from the group's two albums together with a few Christmas and foreign language recordings. None of the group's hits are included.

It had been seven and a half months since the last download album of material by The Springfields, although they had appeared in many various artists compilations during the period.

The download album that has brought this hiatus to an end is My Favorite Record. It is a 12-track compilation, with eight of the tracks coming from Kinda Folksy and the other four from singles released in 1962. It was released on 1 July.

A company by the name of Golden Times has today issued two download albums of material by The Springfields. Confusingly, both albums are titled Rooftop Storys.

The album with the orange cat in the illustration has the twelve tracks from Kinda Folksy, albeit in a different running order.

The album with the grey or blue cat also has twelve tracks, nine of which come from Kinda Folksy and three from 1962 singles.

Two download albums of material by The Springfields were issued by a company called 33x digital at the beginning of October.

On 5 October they issued Silver Nights, consisting of eight tracks from Kinda Folksy and four from singles released in 1962. On 6 October they issued Swan Lake In The Winter, which consists of the same eight tracks from Kinda Folksy and the same four tracks from 1962 singles. The only difference is the running order of the tracks.

The posting directly above this one mentioned a company named 33x digital.

On 2 November this label issued a third download album of material by The Springfields. Titled Christmas Collection, it consists of eight tracks from Kinda Folksy and four from 1962 singles. In other words, it is the same material as this label used on the two download albums it issued at the beginning of October. Also, there are no Christmas songs included in the twelve tracks despite the album's title.

Marathon Media International issued two download albums of material by The Springfields on 6 November.

The first is titled Kinda Folksy, made up of the twelve tracks from the UK album of the same name along with four tracks from singles issued in 1961 and 1962.

The second, Silver Threads and Golden Needles, has the twelve tracks of the US album of the same name plus three tracks from 1961 singles and Tzena Tzena Tzena, which was replaced on the US version of the first album by the title track.

This company credits the tracks to The Springfields rather than to Dusty as a solo artist, as so many other companies have done.

It bears the title Aurora Borealis and has twelve tracks, eight of which come from the Kinda Folksy album plus four from 1962 singles. The tracks are credited to Dusty rather than to the group.
