1964 releases

Postby Clive » Sun Feb 26, 2017 11:11 am

Just looking at the quantity of recordings Dusty released in 1964. I make it a total of 26 separate songs spread over singles, LPs and EPs. Must have been expensive for her fans at the time trying to collect it all.

By contrast Dusty released just 21 songs in the whole decade 1980-89!

I make it 24 for the UK as opposed to your figure of 26. Have you double-counted 24 Hours From Tulsa and Wishin' And Hopin', which appeared on AGCD as well as on EPs?

As a 14 year-old schoolboy at the time, I can confirm it was very expensive to collect everything.

Jim I was counting anything released in either UK or US during the year.

Do you remember were US LPs available as imports or was their existence unknown to UK fans?

Clive, I certainly remember that the NME news pages told you what UK artists were featuring in Billboard's Hot 100 during the British Invasion of 1964, so I was aware that Live It Up/Guess Who was in the lower reaches of that chart.

As a schoolboy at the time, thoughts of obtaining US singles were beyond my ken, not to say means.

I assume that the above single accounts for the difference of two in our figures.

yes can imagine so. I didn't include any German/French/Italian singles , they would have been even more out of reach for young fans.

1964 was an amazingly prolific year for Dusty, never quite repeated I don't think.
