It looks like the cover for White Heat was adapted from a photograph. If so, has the untouched original ever been published?

That's an interesting question and I don't think I've ever come across the original, presuming there was one. I do wonder if it was the same shoot as the well known one that graced Sometimes Like Butterflies amongst other things though.

Ah! The cover is just from a little different angle. But it does look like it could be from the same session. Thanks for bringing this up!

Thanks Carole! That's a very sharp observation; the makeup and and hair do look quite similar. Just as an aside, the other day I checked my copy of White Heat, and a "Mac James" is credited on the back with painting. I tried submitting a message via his website but had no success.

The drawing's hair looks straighter and the eyeliner is more angled, but yeah. Though WH came years before the Hippodrome debacle/recordings.

There is an actual photo on the back of the album, wonder if the photographer of that was named? (I have been long parted from my vinyl version...)

White Heat was released in December of 1982.

The second photo was used for the promotion of the single Sometimes Like Butterflies in August, 1985.

A 3 year gap but still possible that the photo influenced the cover.

Interesting. Maybe a joint search with his and Dusty's names could turn up some good stuff..
