Dusty record collection

Postby dig123 » Wed Jul 16, 2014 1:24 pm

As I've just about read all the books on Dusty, I'm turning my focus to collecting her music. I have a few 45's from the 60's and a few CDs from her later years. Which would you recommend vinyl and CDs as must haves? Which ones are hard to find collector items? There are so many and I need to begin somewhere. Thanks!

ESSENTIAL ALBUMS : Everything's coming up Dusty
A girl called Dusty
Both are a MUST
Likewise the ep 'Dusty in New York' (if you can find it !)

Really, everything is worth collecting, but the 'best of's'/'Greatest hits' collections will duplicate

..and how about 'Silver & gold' or 'Over the hills and far away' by The Springfields ?

Di,

Have you looked at the discography on the main LTD site?

Another really useful website is called Woman of Repute. It was created by a guy called Michael Bayley (a huge Dusty fan). There is a massive amount of information in there but, more importantly, if you go to the Essential Dusty page you will find an excellent guide to the music. There is also information about books, videos and DVDs.

You should note that this site has not been updated since 2006 so misses information about the many books, DVDs and CD collections released since then.

Enjoy! [yahoo]

For me the best compilation CD you can buy is Complete A and B Sides 1963- 1970 . You might have all the a-sides but a lot of the B-sides might be new to you, as they were to me when I bought the Double CD about three years ago. I was flabbergasted at the quality of the material that was considered inferior to the A-sides and hope you will be too.

Being a "born again Dusty fan" I started by getting all her studio albums. Many are hard to get and expensive, as yet other than downloads etc I have a recording of all in some form or other even a cassette. I am still hoping to have a complete CD set soon. Paul Howes books are a must. Good hunting - and enjoy.
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be.......

Thanks all for your suggestions. A born again Dusty fan is a good way to put it. I do look on Amazon and Ebay. I just purchased some vinyl 45's and a couple of albums. I would love to get Dusty in Memphis but that seems to sell for anywhere from $40 up. Besides a couple of greatest hits cds, my fave that I have is Dusty in London. So, I am adding to my collection.....little by little!

I bought these two LPs in a record shop in Cardiff yesterday (along with Carole King's Tapestry) I'm very pleased to say they are my first vinyls. I don't have a record player (yet). But, when I do, they will be played constantly. [:D]

Wow! I'm impressed Hannah! Dusty and Carole King's Tapestry? Excellent choices. Tapestry is one of my favorite albums. Brings back so many memories.

Hadn't been to my local charity shop in Gloucester for a while and as they always have good a supply of records, and being hopeful of finding something Dusty, I thought I'd have a look. Loads of Elvis. I keep looking. Dusty's Greatest Hits in very nice condition, the one with the black cover, but already have it. The compilation YDHTSYLM, already got that, too. Yes! A copy of AGCD in fantastic condition, both sleeve and record. And only £4!
Now enjoying listening to these great mono mixes on my 1963 record player. A good Dusty day!

I have It Begins Again on vinyl and the 7 inch single of Sometimes Like Butterflies at my parents house which I both got really cheaply from discogs.com, and the former of which is in great condition. The 7 inch was advertised as being very good condition but sounds crackly when I play it, probably should have got the 12 inch instead.

If you're buying vinyl I'd recommend going for the original releases, although they are obviously quite rare, especially her earlier albums. The reason is that some vinyl reissues may come from a digital source which means you're essentially buying a CD burned onto a vinyl record.

I don't think I've ever seen that photo of Dusty before. What year is the record from?

Hi - I collect Dusty, Elvis and others. Have you been down to your charity shop recently. Does it have a good selection - the few I've been to seem to have very poor selections, mainly easy listening.

Hi Mike. I look forward to seeing what you find. I haven't had much luck finding Dusty records (aside from my earlier post), so I wonder if they're easier to find in England.
