Dusty Radio Programme from 02/03/2009?

Postby DustyDanny » Sat Mar 02, 2019 9:05 pm

Seeing as today marks a whole decade since the aforementioned radio programme, I thought I'd finally bother asking: does anybody happen to have a recording of it? It was an hour about Dusty's life and her music, broadcast on BBC Radio 2, around 9:00 PM, to commemorate ten years of her passing, and it was what managed to get me hooked onto her music in the first place. It would mean a lot to me if someone has a copy of it.

If you are in UK try iplayer/Sounds, there are pages of radio/tv programmes, from the BBC, featuring Dusty. They are mostly dated so you can skim through.

PS. There is an interesting one from BBC World Service. The interview is with Douggie Reece about the South African fiasco.
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be.......
..I'm goin' back.

Hi Danny,

There are a couple of CDs available through LTD. Both were broadcast on Radio 2 -

1 The Dusty Springfield Story - it is also on Youtube

2 Remembering Dusty broadcast a year after her death - it is also on Youtube

I'm not sure about a programme on the date you mentioned.

I hope this helps

Hi Danny,

I have checked the BBC Genome webpage. There is no listing there for the programme you have enquired about.

Hmm, strange. I actually spoke to Darren about it on Facebook, and he said it was called Goin' Back? And I'm not sure whether or not it was on BBC 2, as it was such a long time ago. I'll try doing some research into it.

Hi Danny,

There is something of a mystery as to which programme you heard.

I have checked the BBC Genome website and there certainly was no programme broadcast on 02/03/2009.

There are the two I have already mentioned - The Dusty Springfield Story was first broadcast on 27/03/1999 and Remembering Dusty Springfield was a four part programme with the first episode broadcast on the 02/03/2000. Both on BBC Radio 2.

The programme Darren has mentioned to you is Going Back - the Dusty Springfield Story.

I have copied the synopsis of this programme below.

BBC Radio 2, 23 October 1993 16.00

To coincide with the anniversary of the release of I Only Want to Be with You in November 1963,
John Sachs narrates while
Dusty tells her own story. In a rare interview, Dusty recalls the hardships and tough times. The programme also features many of her popular hits and comment from close friends.
Producer Aian Roberts

I hope this helps to solve the mystery.

I would love to find a copy of this programme. It is not available as a CD from Lets Talk Dusty and neither is it on Youtube.

Does anyone have a copy?
