Mine arrived while my sister in law was here, and I was itching to open it, but calmly waited till she went.
Loving what I see, I kept turning the pages and going, 'Oh wow!'
Its mighty heavy and I am wondering where I can put it away from small hands, i.e. my granddaughter!
Marvellous Paul, I love it. Thank you.

It's hard to say which of the new pictures I love the best, there are just so, so many, but the one of Dusty on Baker St in 63 and the ones taken in her flat that same year, well, I just think they're gorgeous. She looks so movie star-ish in the indoor ones and so natural in the outdoor one.

Wow! Just got home from work and opened it up. First Impressions- Masterwork with Dozens of Photos I haven't Laid eyes on before. :bravo: <3

I've given myself 2 simple rules when reading this book in the future.
1. Wash My Hands very carefully before touching.
2. No Food Or Drink allowed within an 50 Yard Radius of this book.

Hope Everyone's enjoying it as much as me, and those waiting for it, it's well worth the wait. :bravo:

Many Thanks Paul :star:

It is difficult to choose a favourite from all the new photos, but after looking through the book a few times now I have narrowed them down to 15!!These appear on pages:-

23
31
38
80
99 in San Remo
172 with her eyes closed showing off the long lashes
176
299...the bottom photo
324... the top photo
350 even though Dusty has added to it!
380 the middle photo
405
412
415 with the cat.

All just stunning, Dusty was So beautiful she really was.

My thanks again to Paul.

I'll add my 2 cents...

The book arrived at my apartment building this evening (Wednesday) here in NYC! I was fearful it would be delayed due to the on-rush of the holiday package delivery season. Great delivery service from the publisher!

Well done! Bravo! Paul you've scored another hit! A must-see and own book for all Dusty fans. Incredible.

Alas, I had hoped for some additional photos from the Reputation album cover session. According to rumor, Dusty/Vicki and EMI contracted for a photographer to fly in from NY to do the cover shoot . He (?) and Dusty went around and did a series of photographs only to have them nixed by Dusty and the only remaining one, a poor quality shot, ended up on the cover....

Still this book contains some amazing pics.

I'll be up all night thumbing through each and every page.

My sincere best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all Dusty fans. All the best in 2014!

Agree with Carole and Cas , and yes a copyright issue is there on the book . [^] . with all the wonderful "reviews" by those of us that have it , surely those tempted must be convinced.. [;)] [:)]

Yes I agree re copyright issues. If I had the money I would definitely buy it! Now that I have a new job I'm hoping I will be able to afford it in the future if it's still available.

Maggie, I couldn't really afford it myself. From when I ordered it to when I received it I felt
terribly guilty for spending so much on one book. Since opening it tho' I must say it's really
money well spent. It's worth every penny. [:D] :star:

I've got many Dusty books, but this one sounds terrific from all your reviews. I just wish I could afford £70 at the moment. [:(] Does anyone know how long this book will be available for? Also, how many were printed? How many pages and photos are there? Thanks, Rich. (in name only!)

I just meant some camera phone shots to get an idea of the layout.

To be honest I haven't much liked the layout of the books Paul has already done, especially the choice and placement of pictures, so that is why I hesitated to get this one.

As for copyright issues - just as the listings on Amazon and other book sites, as well as printed reviews, include a few sample pages doing so does not violate copyright. That only happens when reproductions are exact.

Those of you concerned about copyright violations - well we do that every day here by posting copyrighted photos, don't we?

Hi Richard-There are 416 wonderful pages in the Dusty book. It is mainly photographs but there are also some descriptions. I don't know how long the book will be available, but if you e-mail Paul Howes at dustybulletin@aol.com, I am sure he will give you all the info you need. This is a must have for all Dusty fans. I guess it would help if you could use a credit card. I don't know what other payment methods there are other than check. Again, you could check with Paul. Good luck. You won't be sorry.......

Well, I'm sorry that you haven't liked Pauls books in the past Maggie, though I can't understand why. I, and everyone else I know, has been thrilled with them. There is no one out there who puts as much work, money, thought and dedication into compiling books on Dusty and although you're entitled to your opinion, I think your comments are quite churlish.

I couldn't agree with you more, Carole. Dusty fans are indebted to Paul Howes for his incomparable work.

As for copyrights and Paul specifically, I know he contacted me some time back with concerns about members posting photos he had paid a fair price to acquire rights to, so i can't blame him really. It's not like he's Getty or some other large corporation; he's an individual who has given so much of his life's energy to promoting Dusty's music and legacy and certainly without profit as the motive.

I didn't intend to cast any churl, nor do I dispute the time and effort expended by Mr. Howes. I tend to look at publications with the vantage of thirty-odd years as a journalist, photographer and editor - that's all. But I realize the depth of gratitude for this book that exists here, so I happily surrender [bow]

If, like me, your concerned with keeping the book clean etc. I have decided to cover it in a clear plastic jacket. The BOOK is an usual size so preformed covers will be difficult to fit, but there appear to be sheets of clear for you to make a jacket yourself. Just Google or Amazon, they have some suppliers through marketplace.

Re: Dusty: Looking good isn't always easy - New Book!

Postby edjames » Tue Dec 10, 2013 10:27 pm

I had a few thoughts on the latest book and thought I would share them:

Page 154..Those Orange Boots! Dusty got her revenge, she swiped the boots and left for NYC. I know because when I first met Dusty in December of 1967 she was still wearing them!!! I spent the good part of two hours sitting that evening with her at The Gorham Hotel in sheer heaven watching her.

Also, anyone comment about "outing' Tom???? page 287 I wonder how many know Tom and Peppi were an item?

That dress! Page 206/207 208/209/210/211/212/213/214...same dress as page 268/269, but without the neck/chest plastic thingy embellishments....same dress or a copy with enhancement???? Looks lovely both ways.

Finally...that outfit! Page 262/263 she wore that outfit on US TV on at least two occasions, one on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and again on the Dick Cavett Show (I chatted with her outside the theater after the show...) I'm sure you know it was green/yellow/white and the fringe was yellow. I think the boots were green, too.

Anyone notice the cuff of her slacks were not pressed properly or turned inside out and have a crease in them...page 236/237

So many fun memories.....

I don't quite remember when I personally first heard about Tom and Peppi but I've a feeling it was in someone else's book. Could have been Simon Napier Bell or Andrew Oldham, someone who was in the business anyway, and he just threw it into the story he was telling. And I've a feeling that VW "outed" them as well at some point. Well spotted with the pink TOTT dress btw [:)] All the times I've seen those pictures and I never, ever noticed! It looks better with the embellishment too.

Don't ever remember Dusty wearing that (262/3) outfit on TV in this country but every time I see it, it reminds me of an Ossie Clark creation. Flamboyantly Dusty [:)]

I've been unable to order (this is just a bad time of year, with Xmas being so close and heating oil costing $700) but I'm seriously going to have to do something and get this book. Perhaps give blood or hock some stuff. I can't stand the thought of not getting this book. It's painful!!!

I received my book last week and it’s amazing. Most of the pictures I had not seen before. I’m glad Paul included the shots of her parents and her school reports. I guess to me it shows the normal part of her life away from the stage and as someone’s child. I cannot imagine the time and money it took to gather all this. I wish the picture of Dusty, Madeline, and Martha in Rio would have been better. I also wish the glamour shot of Dusty bare shouldered with her guitar would have been included. However, those are minor things compared to rest of the book. It really is fantastic. I like reading the telegrams from friends and family before her variety show.

Maybe at some point we can discuss the book in more detail after we have had a chance to really go through it. It’s nice to see the shots of Dusty from the beginning of her career up to the end and the changes in between.

It's an utterly gorgeous and spectacular book! Yes, I finally picked up my copy. [:D]

I have yet to read it through carefully. [8)] So far, I've mainly looked at the photos. Does that very last photo of Dusty with her cat give anyone else the craving for a little bonus book with private, off the cuff shots? I mean nothing inappropriate obviously, just some more casual shots, cos Dusty looks so pretty and relaxed there.

My favourite pics of Dusty are those of her performing on stage in the 1960's. [8D] Hopefully there's plenty of those in the book. Is there an equal mix of colour and B/W photos? I'd love this book, but can't spare £70 at the moment. Will the book be reduced in the future I wonder? Rich.

Cracked mine open for the first time yesterday.

Gobsmacked.

I'd welcome a more focused discussion of but one of the things I love about the book are the various photos of the same sessions. Seeing Dusty with different expressions and poses yet in the same outfit and lighting, fascinates me. You realize how the official publicity shots were so carefully crafted and chosen, and now it's a discovery to see different angles, smiles--Dusty's face has always fascinated me and it does so even more now.

Its an absolutely beautiful book, with more text than I expected. :star:

Anyway, I'm determined to make a space of about three hours so that I can take in all the gorgeous pics and information at leisure.

I don't think that any Dusty fan would be disappointed with this book..Fab with a capital 'F'

I really am regretting not getting a paperback and a hardback, no matter how careful I am, the constant use is already spoiling its pristine condition, i could have used the paperback to flick through, and kept the hardback for display, but i cant justify the expense

I would love to have one. Received an email from him. Hardcovers are sold out. And I just don't have the almost $100.00 for one at the moment. I'm in the middle of house renovations. Will have to save up.

Been working in my music room/office this weekend. Will post a picture when I'm done. I think y'all will find one section of my wall VERY interesting!!! [;)]

I saved up enough money at last, and ordered last weekend. And now I wait...
