Dusty: Looking good isn't always easy - New Book!

Postby daydreamer » Mon Sep 09, 2013 11:15 am

I've been waiting for news of this for a while now and was so pleased when the flyer appeared in my mail today [:D] It's going to be a limited edition print and I'm hoping that it sells out, as I know that Paul has put a massive amount of work into it (as he always does). All enquiries to dustybulletin@aol.com

Thanks Carole, Karen & Cas. [yahoo] :star: that's brilliant news, looks and sounds great. I have sent Paul Howes a e-mail enquiring about it's availability but while waiting a reply... :pensive: ............

Does anyone have any idea if the book is limited to Dusty members affiliated to Mr Howes or can non-members buy a copy. (I'm not a member) Also what price are they quoting. [beg]

Hopefully if the demand is high from this forum and elsewhere they will do another reprint. <3

 It might seem reasonable to you Cas!....but £70 (£55 to DSB members) seems rather expensive to me!
True Paul has no doubt put a lot of work into it, but wouldn't it be better to sell a 100 books @ say, £25, than 10 or 20 @ £70? Not all Dusty fans are rich - mind you, it is possible you have rich relations who could buy it as a Christmas present!!

Have sent email to Paul requesting a copy. I agree £70 is the most I have ever paid for a book!
However as it's Dusty, will just have to have it. [:D] [yahoo]

[:o] Wow! This is so great! I've bought a book for roughly the same price a few years back, and if it's very good quality and is a subject you're passionate about then I think it's worth the money if you can afford it. Books never go out of fashion and neither will Dusty. [;)] I won't be getting one though because I'm saving up for a billion important things at the moment, but it looks absolutely lovely. <3

Thanks for the info Carole, I remember you saying that there may be something in the offing. Well I hope I qualify for the book as I didn't think the Bulletin was still in existence. I have sent an e-mail anyway. Something to look forward now for the winter.

Hi Pat,

Good news. I had the same qualms as you, I was really worried that because I wasn't a member of the Dusty Springfield Bulletin I might not be 'entitled' to get a copy. :pensive:

Anyway, just got a e-mail back from Paul Howes, and like Brian says if we just pay the extra money for not being DSB members and we get our orders in quickly it shouldn't be a problem. [yahoo]

Brian, it isn't just about the amount of work that will have gone into putting this book together but the fact that buying the rights to a lot of the photo's has to come into it too. And those costs have to be covered. A few years ago I would have baulked at paying over £50 for a book but the last two Christmas's Lucy has asked for fashion books that were just that! And a couple she wanted were over £100, she didn't get those [;)] I'm happy with the price, as I know this will be a classy and special book and I've wanted one for so long. I can't wait to own it [:D]

Much like Carole I have been eagarly awaiting news of this book for quite some time. I had been sworn to secrecy and Paul mentioned something about MI5 and The dreaded Tower of London for those who had slip of the tongue! LOL
Good to see it's finally being published and at any price I am sure it is worth every penny, farthing, pence, euro...whatever.
I am told that many photos have never been seen before, so I eagerly await its arrival to sit and peruse the 416 pages!!!

God bless Paul and all his hard work and effort.

This really is exciting, and it saddens me that there are some fans out there that would love a copy more than anything but dont have that kind of money, i wish i could buy everyone a copy. I wonder if there would be any chance at all of Paul maybe donating a copy for a future raffle?

I agree with all you've said, Neil. I'd love every true fan to have one.

Don't know if Paul would be able to do that, as it's such an expensive product, but we can approach him when the next raffle comes around.

Finally ordered my copy--having it delivered to Laura who will bring it to me at the wedding.

Ordered my book a few weeks ago. Paul Howes said they will start to go out November 18. It was a lot of money but it will be worth every penny. Since I live in the US I had to pay more for shipping too. I can hardly wait till it gets here. Does anyone know what year the picture was taken that is on the flyer promoting the book? I think Dusty looks stunning in blue.

Mike is buying it me for Christmas...do I open it before the 25th December is the question tho [:o]

Question? -Should I open it ? - Answer: YES!!

After all you must check it is in good order etc. One problem, what if Mike takes it in whilst you're out playing golf?

@Cecelia- out of curiosity, how much was the total cost for shipping to the US? I should have enough extra loot by the month's end to get the book, but I wanted to anticipate how much it will cost in total.

I hope it's not too late to place an order for one. :?

@ Markus -- if you decide to order it, maybe you could have it sent to Laura, who could bring it to you at the wedding. That's why I'm doing cause the shipping is $$$

Hi Markus-well I spent $170.00 for the whole order. I think shipping may have been around $50.00. And I did purchase the hard cover so I guess that might weigh a bit more then the soft cover. Hope that helps. Cecelia

HOLY TOLEDO! [B)]

A better title for the book might've been Being a US Dusty Fan isn't Always Easy. [;)]

That's an idea, Bosseh! I'll check with Laura.
Of course I don't want to cause any additional fees for luggage weight. We'll see.

I don't know why Paul Howes didn't send this trhough one of the postal shipping companies because they would do it from the UK to North America for 3GBP or less.

Hopefully the books will be sent out at the end of this week or beginning of next, there has been a little delay over the hard back covers. Can't wait [:D]

Yes, I am fit to burst too. I heard there will be a delay on the hard cover books so I guess that means I have to wait a bit longer. I don't think I can. I just can't wait to see 416 delightful pages of Dusty. Yeah!!!!

I feel their pain too Neil. [:(]

The British Library (Not sure about Other Countries) would normally acquire copies if people order them, not quite sure how the system works. Trouble is this is a Limited Edition so in this case it would be impossible [V] And would they have forked out that sort of money anyway. Another problem is, with this type of book when it would be returned after being loaned out, there might be a few pages missing. [;)]

WHAT ! [:o] [:o] !
That's $123.00 U.S. dollars for paperback, and $139.00 for hardback, plus shipping.
Sorry Paul,... But I don't have a recording contract. That's way out of my budget. I know most of our librarians around here, and I know that's out of their budget too.

Mine will be delivered to me by Laura a few days before my wedding. I don't know if I will be able to contain my excitement. [8D]
