Dusty Venues

Postby Corinna » Sat Mar 24, 2012 4:15 pm

Cas asked me to assist her with copying her post from another thread to a new thread for photos of Dusty venues. So here goes! [:D] Great thread idea, Cas!

Here's Cas' post:

Cas19 wrote:I found a couple of small pics of the Imperial where I first saw Dusty live on stage in the 60s. To say Nelson was only a small northern town, the Imperial had all the top acts including the Beatles and Dusty.
The Imperial burnt down I forget the year, but on the site they built flats.
Heres a couple of pics, one of Dusty with the stage manager and whoever else.

You could dance right up to the stage and almost touch the artists.
I thought something like this would have made a nice thread of its own if theres enough material from everyone?

Seeing as theres been plenty viewing this but so far no contributions I will show you another.

This is the ABC Blackpool as it was in the 60s when Dusty appeared there.

The interior.

The ABC closed for conversion to a triple screen cinema in 1981, the old stage was left intact behind the safety curtain. I believe its now a night club.

Heres Dusty in the dressing room at the ABC in 1968.

Karen, don't want to appear to be a know it all [:I] , but it wasn't actually TOTP's, it was 'DUSTY' from Shepherd's Bush Empire. I was there [:D] TOTP's 2 have used that clip often though.

Cas, love the shot of the 60's ABC. This was taken around the back of the theatre before a Sunday show, I don't think we were allowed to take photo's inside the theatre during the performance.

The Palace Theatre Manchester. Dusty appeared there quite a few times, including when this photo was taken at the stage door in 1967.

This is the Casterways in Birmingham where we saw Dusty in the 60s.

This was Dusty on stage, we were a lot closer than this appears to be.

This pic was taken by me backstage.

Another one backstage but this was taken by another fan.

What a great thread! Great to see the venues where Dusty appeared. I've hardly seen any exterior of the venues (besides RAH of course), so these photos are fabulous!

Not half as attractive as some, but just as significant..
The BBC studios which were in a converted church, Rusholme Manchester..
This is where Dusty performed IOWTBWY, first edition of Top Of The Pops, NewYears day 1964.

Dusty on TOTP's from Dickenson Rd in Manchester. The church is demolished now but there is a plaque on the building that now sits in it's place.
