[DOCUMENTARY] Full Circle

Postby Corinna » Sun Mar 20, 2011 6:01 pm

Full Circle is the 1994 documentary, where Dusty is interviewed by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. Dusty talks about her career so far from the Lana Sisters to her latest (unfortunately, it would prove to be her last) album A Very Fine Love.

Rare clips and good laughs!

I adore Dusty's humour in this. Great footage too. Really love seeing her in Nashville (resplendent in denim!) - how cute does she look in that hat? This also marked the first time I saw that beautiful Dusty and Burt performance too - just love it <3

Have this in VHS, and I'm amazed how Dusty can accommodate the moronic French and Saunders, but she's a good sport about it. [:D]

i have so many favourite bits of this documentary, too numerous to mention, I love the comedy with french and saunders who are hilarious as always, the chemistry with dusty really works, obviously i can just watch her talk till the cows come home, but if i had to pick one moment of the whole documentary that i love the most, it would have to be right at the very end, when she is recording Roll away. And a close second would be Pat trying to soothe dustys anxiety and self doubt when she was tackling that horrendous video shoot. IM so glad for these dvds that we all have

Didn't Dusty say she would only do the documentary if French and Saunders were involved? Their sense of humour clearly appealed to her because she seems to love every minute of the interview. I thought it made for a very balanced portrayal of Dusty - one that balanced candour with her Goonish side. I remember seeing this on TV when I was about 7. It was the first time I had ever seen Dusty and I have been hooked ever since, so this documentary is pretty special to me.

It probably meant that Dusty followed her usual pattern of calling the producer/director/writer/cleaning lady'/parking attendant at all hours to make "suggestions".

As for the French and Saunders connection apparently Dusty loved ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS so she was probably thrilled at having them compere her documentary.

Jeffery:

Have you been in a coma? You haven't experienced the World according to Edina and Patsy? Oh my, you are in for a shock.

AbFab, as those of us in the know refer to it, was the funniest comedy series EVER. It was created and written by Jennifer Saunders who starred as Edina, the 60's burned-out mother from hell. Her best friend Patsy was played by the incredible Joanna Lumley. Together they swigged champagne and smoked anything that would light. Inexplicably they were successes in their careers and could afford to behave badly. I highly reccommend you get the DVD's - most libraries have copies - and dedicate a weekend to watching the madness ensue.

Dusty and Helene loved the series and called each other Eddie and Patsy (I think Dusty must have been Patsy - when you see the hairstyle on Joanna Lumley you'll know why).

Search Joanna Lumley on YouTube - her appearances on chat shows are priceless - she is truly one of the funniest people in the world.

[8D] Yes Maggie I have been in a coma. I've also been in a marriage, a cell, and a church.
But I'm feeling better now. [B)]
That clip Cor posted helped me connect the dots. I couldn't get over how much Edina resembled my mom.
(Right after she came home from the psych ward.)
I live here in the heartland, the mid-west, smack-dab in the middle of no where. When you say British they think you're talking about the revolutionary war.
DVD is a good tip. I'll search for one in the Clevenet library system.
I get a kick out of Patsy. Just found their youtube clip: REHAB :roflol:

I'm back, people...couldn't get my old account open again so here I am.

Jeffery, I love your sig, but we'll have to agree to disagree on French and Saunders, as I am a fan of them together and separately. Loved Vicar of Dibley, and I echo the love shown here for Ab Fab! (Well at least the first three seasons)

I always loved Full Circle...it reminds me of when I was just starting as a fan and was looking for anything I could about Dusty. I was fortunate enough to find the VHS at Suncoast Video (remember either or both? :-)) I think some people underrate the program...yes it's comedic but it's one of the few (only?) autobiographical pieces Dusty herself did. Sure wish Dusty wrote one of her own...

Plus I gotta say it...I still love the Mother's Pride commercial after all these years.

I think we struck gold with Ab Fab. I've been a fan of French and Saunders ever since Comic Book, which was the first thing they did I believe, then that was followed by a series called Girls On Top. Men Behaving Badly had nothing on those women. LOL thank goodness. Adding Joanna Lumley was also a stroke of genius.

I've just been watching the Romanian Baby episode. Very funny. I wonder how many of us had mothers like this, I know I can identify with it.

Mark em up, sell em off. LOL

I did order Dusty Live at the Royal....Can't wait to get it. I've watched some of it on YouTube but it will be great to have an actual DVD. Thanks and Cheers! :rose:

EBay - they have them listed - mostly on the UK site - almost all the time. Here's the hidden search of DVD's currently available - even if a listing doesn't say if they will ship to where you are just contact the seller and ask:

Hello Dusty fans. I just purchased the Full Circle DVD from AmazonUK. I excitedly turned on the DVD player only to get the message, "This disc cannot be played in your area". What? I was prepared to have a Dusty evening. Does anyone have any idea as to why a DVD from England won't play in my Panasonic DVD player?

Hi Mary! Here's the problem:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

To play the DVD, you must have a DVD player of your region or own a "universal" or "region 0" player, who can play any DVD of the whole world. Did you try to play the disc in your computer? Even if your computer is old, it can work well. It was my case before.

Good luck!

Hi Samuel. I took your advice and played the DVD on my computer. Stupid Windows Vista....I had to change the code to view the CD. It only allows the code to be changed 4 times....after that the computer will default to the code currently being used, which means it might stay stuck in the Europe code zone. LOL. Well, I managed to watch Full Circle, thanks to you. I've seen it several times before on YouTube and I enjoyed it just as much this time if not more. Sigh. Dusty deserved so much more recognition than she got. She is truly one of a kind and will live on in our hearts :rose:

If anyone's still experiencing the Region Code problem on their computer, I can recommend downloading VLC, which plays absolutely anything and ignores region codes.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

There's a Mac version as well: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

Also, there are ways and means of hacking your DVD player to make it multiregion: http://www.dvdhacks.co.uk/.

Can anybody tell me what happened to this documentary?

I have seen this with all of the celebrity commentaries and with lots more from Dusty. One specific part I was looking for is when she speaks about her father tapping out notations on the back of her hand for her to guess the piece of music. All of this is missing from this version of the documentary.

It used to be on the LTD website too and even with a transcript of all of the dialogue.

Pat,

Thank you so much for this. There is lots of interesting info about Dusty's early years in here.

What is interesting about F&S "Full Circle" is that the web version is 8 minutes longer than the DVD. A lot of Dusty's comments have been omitted from the DVD which is a shame.
In general a number of Dusty's video have been deleted recently. So catch her while you can.

Yes Pat, this version you have posted has most of the detail. But where is the Fox and where is South Africa?

Not quite sure what you are looking for but South Africa is at 13" and Fox with Martha at 24"

You have a transcript?!!? Is it still up somewhere???????

Dusty was great with French and Saunders! So very funny. A great comedic trio!

Absolutely ! I believe Dusty once said she had an idea to be a comedic actress, something like Doris Day.

LOL
