Maggie Stredder

Postby JohnHarding » Fri Mar 09, 2018 11:55 pm

I am truly sad to pass on the report of the death, after a long illness, of Maggie Stredder, at the age of 81. Maggie was a founding member of The Vernon's Girls, a stalwart of the many pop music shows which started to appear in the UK in the late 1950s and early 1960s. From their ranks emerged many groups - Maggie formed a duo with another Vernon's Girl, Jean Ryder, called The Two Tones, and was a member of The Ladybirds, a ubiquitous UK backing vocal trio (Jean was a founder of the other equally popular vocal trio, The Breakaways). Maggie was a supremely elegant lady, always distinctive in her trademark spectacles, beautifully arranged blonde hair, and usually a vision in glorious pink clothes.
Many here will particularly remember Maggie from Dusty's performance of 'Gonna build a mountain' from one of her 1966 series' shows; Maggie is the backing singer standing between Madeline Bell and Lesley Duncan.
Rest in peace, Lovely Lady.

Oh sad news indeed. We of a certain age will always remember her well. Such a distinctive lovely lady and always there in the 60s. I am sorry to be saying goodbye to another sixties stalwart. Bless you Maggie. :rose:

RIP Maggie :(

BTW I find JMFabianoRPL's post very offensive. Since when have we started wishing people dead! Dusty never would have.
