Cate Blanchett lip synced to You Don't Own Me at a drag club in NY. It was Dusty's version! I was a little surprised!

Hi All

On seeing Cate Blanchett lip syncing to Dusty's voice and knowing
that she is a great actress it occurred to me. If ever (Who knows)
somebody decides to make a movie about Dusty I believe that Cate
who doesn't mind lip syncing could be a wonderful Dusty if she wanted
to do it. She has won many awards for her ability including Queen Elizabeth 1st.
in a couple of movies so I am sure she would get Dusty's speaking voice with no trouble.
They will need to get the story right first and not like a lot of story lines that are out there.
With Cate Lip syncing the singing voice of Dusty, then that should make everybody happy.
A great actress and Dusty's voice what could be better apart from Dusty herself.
Anyway it could be talking point in the future maybe.

Hi

They can make people look smaller in the movies, but not on stage!!
Katherine Kingsley is 5'9" and I am sure that Cate is a much better actress.
Winning 2 Oscars, 2 Golden Globes, 3 Screen Actors Awards, 2 Bafta plus
countless other awards. However a movie is only hypothetical at the moment
and may never happen. So we all have our own thoughts about things. I just
would love whatever anybody writes or produces about Dusty is correct in as
many if not all the details that are available from whatever sources. Some
people know things that have never been spoken about, which could tell a
slightly different story to the ones that are out there now.
An open mind would help with some things.

ImageI was being facetious - and speaking for myself if a movie is ever made about Dusty I wouldn't want any creativity spent on making her look smaller. As I've said - any evocation of Dusty is going to be inexact in some respect, and I think that's just as true for screen as stage. And it's interesting that Cate should be mentioned in connection with Dusty, Cate being Oscar nominated for the 2015 film Carol whose writer Phyllis Nagy was announced as working on the script for a Dusty biopic altho neither Cate nor any other actress was ever mentioned as the star. The movie was identified as both Middle of Somewhere and So Much Love but IMO at this point it might as well be named Abandoned Dusty Biopic Project #Bazillion.

Well yes it was great to hear my favourite this morning as Brian Matthew hosted his last show on radio 2
He played all his favs including the Beatles, Elvis, the Everlys, Dionne, Aretha, the searchers, Billy Fury and lots more.
He called Dusty magnificent, so that says it all from a great music man.
I turned to radio Wales after that and the Owen Money show and guess what......
He played his favourite Dusty record, All I see is you....... so I heard it twice this morning. :dig:
He said every time he hears it it blows him away, fantastic.

IOWTBWY was played extensively on Radio 4 this evening during Feedback.

It was chosen to accompany an item on the changes about to take place to SOTS. The presenter said they had had a large postbag complaining about the removal of Brian Matthew and the time change. According to the head of Radio 2, the indication that Brian wanted to retire came from Brian's family, not from Brian himself.

Dusty's first hit was presumably chosen as being emblematic of the 60s.

Dame Katherine Grainger on Desert Island discs chose Dusty singing You Don't Own Me.
She said in 1999 she went into Henley for the first time when the regatta wasn't on and saw crowds of people and then she saw a carriage and black horses and saw DUSTY in flowers and she realised she was by accident watching the funeral of Dusty. She stayed outside the church and heard the music and that lovely voice and service piped outside to the crowds.
Dusty was played a lot when she lived in Scotland as her Mum was a fan.
Nice story.

Dusty makes an appearance on the PBS broadcast of the My Music TV series again in the Rock Rewind 1967-1969 show.
This appearance is the Hollywood Palace show singing Son Of A Preacher Man.
Here in NYC the show is endlessly repeated on PBS's WLIW Channel 21 station.
Check your local listings.

The show is worth a look as it comes from "Althorp", home of Diana Princess of Wales.

Radio 2 10pm last night spent the hour with Mika hosting a Carole King tribute. He played lots of favs and with Carole singing some songs but other singers too.
I thought he might play goin' back with Dusty as Carole had said noone could sing it better but he didn't.
Towards the end of the hour he played Dusty singing " I can't make it alone "
"every day I find you're in my heart and on my mind"

"she was the very essence of fabness""

After I Can't Make It Alone on the Michael Ball/ Carole King interview, Tony B has just played When The Sunlight Starts Shining Through His Eyes on the Motown Special.

Will we have a 3rd Dusty track before the day is over??

Yesterday on Ken Bruce's show, Roy Hudd chose Dusty as one of the tracks of his years. He talked about working with the Lana Sisters and The Springfields back in the Butlin's days and how Dusty was obviously going to be a big solo success. He said she "always gave it some clog" and he liked that it a female singer :)

Reading Peoples Friend ( my old biddie magazine as Dene calls it!) the story was 'To have and to Hold.' A story of a wedding and going back. One of the lines went like this,' I remembered hoping at various points during our day that I looked like Dusty Springfield.' A Dusty moment as I had a my very early lunch today.

Radio 2 Sat morning on the Graham Norton show. He interviewed Alison Moyet. A fan wrote in and asked about her singing back up to Dusty " where is a woman to go " on the Jool's Holland show.( Two hrs and 20 mins into the show)
She said she hadn't met her before but was thrilled to be asked by Dusty to sing back up with Sinead O' Connor.
She said her own voice is " like a blokes and so to sing high she had to sing loud and hard to get the notes, she said Dusty looked at her as if to say turn/tone it down a bit " [:)]
Graham was going to look it up on utube as he hadn't seen it.
Well he's in for a treat.

You never know when Dusty will turn up  .

No Easy Way Down - played on BBC2 Match of the Day on Sunday 30/4  . Presume it was played over section on relegation of football teams to lower leagues  . Good choice. Dusty liked to watch football and supported Brazil.
It is only a little bit.

Tony also played Georgie Girl and called them The New Seekers when of course it was The Seekers.
Wish he gave more info on what he plays too like Brian did. He could have said for example that it was written by Tom Springfield and Jim Dale.
Tony spends too much time telling his dreadful jokes in my opinion .

Kiki Dee on her first of four progs last week called " I've got the music in me " played some of your lovin' last week at 11pm on radio 2 and she spoke about being on backing with Madeline and Lesley Duncan.
This week she plays SOAPM. The rest of the show is good too as it's the Dusty era and she talks about behind the scenes with various singers.
They are repeats from last year, but lots of folk may have missed them. [:)]

Not really a Dusty moment but a link.
This morning at 7-44 on radio 2 SOTS with Tony Blackburn he played Norma Tanega singing cat named dog.
He said she had been living in a place where the landlord wouldn't allow dogs so she got a cat named dog , he said he didn't know if it was a true story but that was the reason she wrote the song. Said it got to 22 in the charts in the US and the UK.. [:)]

A few weeks ago on the Elaine Paige show on radio 2 they played Petula singing " corner of the sky"
I wrote in and asked them to play the Dusty duet version and they wrote back saying they would.
Well at 1-44 pm today in the second hour of the show they played it.
Elaine said it had been asked for by me and that she hoped I had enjoyed it.

Well Tony Blackburn on radio 2 didnt let us down this morning. He played IOWTBWY and then said " one of the best voices of all time, in my humble opinion"

Great that Tony is still playing Dustys music, and what a lovely compliment too.
