Yesterday morning,, Sunday, on Radio 4 following the Archers Omnibus,
Desert Island Discs started a new series and the guest was Tom Hanks, and he
chose 'Doodlin'' by Dusty.

This is the first time I've heard a guest choose a Dusty track
Do we know if any one else has chosen a Dusty track

I am curious

I love that Tom Hanks chose 'Doodlin', he must be quite a fan to choose such a little known song.

Dusty used in quizland today. On "Popmaster" with Ken- name the song by DS used in the film Scandal. Answer given "In Private" - not a bad try as it nearly was used.
Then on "The Chase", for the chaser -who was the Dusty in the London musical staged last year?. Springfield- correct.

She didn't get a low score either, which means lots of people recognised her :)

Radio 2 are trailing their big Summer of 1966 event and it finishes with the intro to YDHTSYLM. That song must have one of the best intros ever, it's so commanding and spine tingling, it made me forget whatever else was played before it! :bravo:

I imagine this Audi ad is for the world market, it could do well for Dusty. It is nice not to suffer the voice-over. Let's hope Dusty regains her place in the charts, especially as AVFL is due for re- release in October. Fingers crossed.

Dusty's WOYM is finally in the Top Ten! That is - it's the #8 most Shazamed ad campaign track as compiled by advertising monitor TheDrum.com: as reported here WOYM has been featured in an Audi TV spot since June 1 with the ad to be run in cinemas as of 23 June. You can read the story and view Dusty's chart rivals here: http://www.thedrum.com/news/2016/06/07/ ... -your-mind

I was listening to the Radio 4 music quiz Counterpoint yesterday, when one of the contestants was asked by Paul Gambaccini to name the singer who asked Donald Trump to stop using her music during his campaign to be the Republican candidate for President. To the astonishment of Gambaccini, who is a big Dusty fan, and the audience, the contestant replied, 'Dusty Springfield'.

The answer was, of course, Adele.

Just flicking through some Internet stations and came across a station I had never heard of before - 1540 Vop. See their Facebook page. This evening they are having a Dusty special and running through all the hits. As I type they are
playing I'll try anything, so up to 1967. Seems this is some rerun from July. The guy hosting it is a Brian Matthews, but not the one on Radio 2!

Just watched the Dusty moment on the red button . Louise Minchin said that on 1st May 1966 Dusty Springfield stood on this very stage at the NM E concert as the only woman on the bill and sung YDHTSYLM a spine chilling moment.
The group The Shires who sang YDHTSYLM today at the World Cup concert made a good job of it.
Dusty was also mentioned as introducing RSG. Interesting that no other British woman singer was mentioned! :note:

Catch this on i player around 25 mins into the programme.

Here's a piece about Dusty and the Audi TV ad from the September issue of Record Collector magazine. Because of the 2MB limit, I had to re-size the article to load as an attachment. Depending on eyesight, it may be necessary to use the Zoom function. Alternatively, you can double-click on the image to get a version that is easier to read.

Thanks Jim. Maybe it's out of context or maybe I missed something in the article but why "Gone Dutch" on the photo? You'll likely tell me and I'll feel dumb [:)]

Carole, I wondered about the use of those words last night when I was posting. The only explanation I can come up with is that 'going Dutch' generally means two parties splitting the costs of a social occasion equally between themselves. In that Noel Harrison had the hit in the UK, while Dusty had the hit in the US, DS and NH went Dutch on record sales of the song. Not entirely convincing, but it is the best that I can come up with.

Goin' Back was played on Radio 2's Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs today.

Dusty got a name-check on yesterday's Sounds of the 60s. Unfortunately, the information given was erroneous. It was stated that Dusty had recorded a version of Nancy Wilson's 1964 US hit (You Don't Know) How Glad I Am. Perhaps they were mixing up Dusty with Kiki Dee, who recorded the song twice, once in 1964 and again in 1975 with a radically different arrangement.

ImageI've just read the Record Collector article on the Audi ad and I'd concur that the "gone Dutch" photo caption references the association of "windmills" with the Netherlands - pretty pointless but pithy which I guess was the point.

What I do question is the assertion that the Memphis session players were bummed by the modifications Dusty suggested to the original arrangement: the Wikipedia entry for WOM - which is obviously the parent for the Record Collector article - doesn't cite any negativity on the part of the session players. I don't think for a second that Record Collector checked out Paul Howes' CDS which was the Wikipedia source but even if they had Howes' simply says: "The song as performed in the film was a lot faster but because of problems in the studio getting the chords right Dusty slowed it down so as she put it 'it would be more organized'." A shame Dusty's WOM couldn't get a shout-out without a groundless assertion that she was difficult to work with.

ImageIt's been announced that cult country singer Tift Merritt will have a new album release 27 January 2017 with a UK tour to occur over the following two weeks. The press release - click here to read in full http://circuitsweet.co.uk/2016/11/tift- ... c-records/ - includes the New Yorker's endorsement of Ms Merritt as "the bearer of a proud tradition of distaff country soul that reaches back to artists like Dusty Springfield and Bobbie Gentry."

Like you, Trek, I got 3 in a row almost as soon as Tim announced them.
Dusty has been on with Ken's "popmaster" 3 in 10 (unfortunately the female contestant couldn't name one}.so she is getting quite an airing.

Let us hope Brian will be back with us soon, fit and well. It is not quite the same without Brian, although Tim sticks with Paul Swerns script.

Dale said he can't present a radio programme without playing Dusty. He was sitting in for Liza Tarbuck.
He is sitting in again today.

Jimmy Tarbuck, on Ken Bruce, tells a great Dusty story about her non-appearance at The Talk Of the Town. He then chose YDHTSYLM. Move along to about 2 hrs 15mins.

I am not sure that was a true story...............the only time she was really late on stage at TTOFT was when she had flu and was really ill but eventually managed a still great performance ..............then they sacked her because she was too ill to appear the next night. I was there the opening night as were Elton, Rod Stewart and of course Madeline. among many other celebrities

Part of his story was true, the part about paying his respects at the church in Henley when he was there for a wedding. I was sitting on Dusty's bench and I nodded hello to him. The next day I was at an event at the Grosvenor House Hotel for Madeline and Tarbuck was also there. I reminded him of our brief hello from the day before and we had a photo taken [:)] As for the TOTT story, he got part of it right but I've heard the tale many times and though she was late, she definitely did appear as Graham says. Maybe like a lot of people, the years twist the memory. He was doing all right till that point [:)]

I heard it too Pat and instantly thought of our Brian, it was his favourite Dusty song. Dusty also featured in a programme called something like "World's Greatest Diva's" on channel 5 the other night. They played the whole of YDHTSYLM from the RAH concert.

YDHTSYLM played , by Tim Rice , on SOTS today. After the play he referred to her as "the immortal Dusty". He also said "the lyrics were superb" VW, SN-B and Dusty thought they were rubbish. Who knows! who cares! it gave Dusty her only Number 1 in '66.

Think again, there in a bedroom scene was Dusty's recording of "Breakfast In Bed: playing in the background.

A big improvement.

Andyp[/quote ]It cant be OK if it's something you like but not if it's 'modern trash'. the best thing is to have no music. Some of this noise is approved by the shop managers who despite their position , don't know any better
