A place for those song sightings or other moments that stop you in your Dusty tracks.

I just heard Stuart Maconie on R2 say that on his prog next Sat (3.00), he'll be featuring Dusty in the run up to the Hall of Fame event. Today he featured Brian Wilson, another inductee.

Well a few days ago, I was doing some shopping at the grocery store after work and 'I Only Want to Be With You' came on! Heard it from start to finish, and mimed along to some parts [:I] . Then, just an hour or so ago, I was back in the same store to pick up something and 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me' came on!! [:o] [:o] [:o]

I'll have to find out who they get their music from!

Yesterday I was watching Jeopardy and they had a category about two artists covering the same song. They said Elvis covered it and asked who was the original singer of YDHTSYLM. Not one of the three contestants knew the answer [:o] [V]

It annoys me when I am at the supermarket and they have the modern trash blaring out throughout the store. More than once I have threatened to walk out because it is driving me mad, but was presently surprised the other day when I heard the familiar sound of You Don't Have To Say You Love Me. A big improvement.

Okay....I don't know what channel it is on Muzak, but most of the last few weeks, it's been tuned to the same one at the restaurant I work at. A week or so ago, it was 'Look of Love' and 'Son-of-a Preacher Man', and last night it was 'Something In Your Eyes'!

I missed SOTS this morning but just caught it on Listen Again. I knew it wouldn't be long before Dusty was on the EP feature, hopefully she'll get another slot with "Dusty" and "I Wish I'd Never Loved You"! I feel a request coming on [:)] Did anyone else think the Lovettes and "Little Miss Soul" was great, and very Dusty in New York-ish?

It seems in Sweden all Dusty moments we get are 'once removed'. I watched a sports prize ceremony the other night (don't ask me why, guess I was too tired to switch if off) when Magnus Carlson sang 'Yesterday when I was young', the same song he performed a year ago at the tribute concert "An evening with Dusty Springfield".

Not actually a Dusty musical moment but I was just watching Emmerdale and Doug asked Diane if she'd like to go with him to see a Dusty Springfield tribute act! I love how for years they've carried on with storyline that Diane is a Dusty fan [:D] I hope they go and I hope we see it!

The second episode tonight had even more Dusty talk in it. Diane reckoned if she screwed up her eyes and maybe her ears, she could try and imagine it was "the great lady herself". She also said that a little bit of Dusty Springfield was just what the doctor ordered. Can't argue with that  I love it when Dusty slips into the soaps.

Postby SteveQ » Mon Feb 08, 2010 1:30 pm

I remember another soap moment in Coronation Street from last year ,I think. Sean, the wonderful and hilarious gay character was given a Dusty CD for his birthay, and started to sing 'You don't have to say you love me. Great stuff.
I had some wonderful dusty moments last thursday afternoon at work. I was doing some tedious stuff when a friend told me about DEEZER, a French on-line juke box service. I know about Spotify ,but that has been brred at work. they obviously don't know about DEEZER. So I Googled it and put my headphones on.
I typed in Dusty Springfield (well, what else?) and noticed tracks from her 1974 album,Cameo. No doubt many of you know this album, but it is all brand new to me. It is definitely one of life’s great pleasures to find new music that you really like, and discovering new Dusty tracks, is just the best. I didn't get to hear all of it, but what I did listen to was really good. I still managed to get my job done,as well.

'I wish I'd never loved you' on SOTS this morning at 9.50. Not one you hear often.

This was followed by an absolutely dreadful out of tune record by The Incredible String Band, which must go down as one of the worst records ever played on the show!

Dusty made Dear Abby column this week. Someone wrote in about providing for animals after one is gone and quoted Dusty's imported cat food, nightgown and record routine for Nicholas. They got it wrong however and said she had provided this for her dog! In any case, good to see Dusty's name in print in daily paper.

Dale has done it again !
For the third time this week he's included a Dusty record on his show :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:
This time (today) it was 'Am I the same girl', and he commented -"The great Dusty who would have been 71 today - great record"
I must say this week in the afternoon Dale has presented a much better programme than Steve 'I love myself' Wright...and he hasn't sung over any of them!

Fourth time! He played Brand New Me yesterday according to the show playlist [:D] I wish they'd give Dale the show, he is so much better than egomaniac Wright. I can't stand him.

I am truly embarassed for them!! [:o] I have to say in regards to the Elvis version - I did not care for his at all, but back to the Jeopardy! show - I didn't see it and wonder how old the contestants were? Doesn't matter I guess but would be nice if just one contestant knew the answer.
allherfaces wrote:Yesterday I was watching Jeopardy and they had a category about two artists covering the same song. They said Elvis covered it and asked who was the original singer of YDHTSYLM. Not one of the three contestants knew the answer [:o] [V]

Watched the last programme in the series London Live here in Sweden. PSB were interviewed and asked to sum up with one word some of their collaborations. The first was of course Dusty, and Neil said "fantastic". (Whatever happened to "sublime", "beyond compare" etc? [;)] )

When I arrived last Wednesday at the flat we had rented, the property manager (Lizzie) came by, and I pointed to 'traveling Dusty' and said 'that's why we're all here' and proceeded to tell her about Dusty Day etc. She related how some years ago (when Dusty was living in Holland with her cats) she met Dusty. Guess Dusty was over in London doing some shopping and Lizzie and her sister happened to be in the stall next door to Dusty's at Harvey Nic's trying on some frocks too! They recognized her voice before they saw her and then got to chat with Dusty who they described as shy but very nice, once she realized they weren't going to harass her in any way.

So, it just felt as if we had chosen just the right place, and maybe we will go back there next year, too, if the fates allow.

yes its a real treat to have the radio on again in the morning before Ken as I find it so strange not having it on after years of Terry.
why the BBC didnt put someone like Graham on this spot in the first place is beyond me, much better audience too I would think and a better cost for us the licence fee payers than the bloated salary of the awful Chris Evans.

Tonight on the Jools Holland BBC 2 show his 'special guest' was Tom Jones. They showed a clip from his past - from the Dusty show! I ntroduced by Jools as a clip of 'you and Dusty' it went on to show singing 'Show me', but there was no Dusty  'Dusty was round the back off camera' apparantly' Jools said after the clip finished
Still she GOT a mention!

Arriving home from another long Monday at work, Smooth Radio started to play the Pet Shop Boys 'What have I done to deserve this’. Doesn’t Dusty sound wonderful on that track .I couldn't get out of the car until I listened to it. Last night(Tuesday) again just as I arrived outside my house, the ’Smooth presenter Derek Webster said “It’s time for some classic Dusty now.- “In the middle of nowhere”, so once again, I sat in my car transfixed to the radio.
Can it happen again tonight??

I was reading the Sunday newspaper this morning, and there's a small magazine called "Parade" inserted with the advertisements...it comes bundled with many Sunday newspapers across the country. Anyhow, there was a small interview with Kristin Chenoweth (who has a Dusty biopic in the works), and she mentioned an album she's putting out later in the year, and was asked about the album being a return to her roots. She said "Is it country? I don't know. I love Dusty Springfield!" Whether or not Miss Dusty's style will influence the album's sound, it was nice to see Miss Chenoweth express her respect for the music.

Hi All

Had an amusing Dusty moment yesterday.

I recently reclaimed several boxes of 7" vinyl singles from storage elsewhere dating from the 60s to the early eighties - the former inherited from other people & latter being mine [:I]

To play them I finally got round to setting up my Dual record deck which hasn't been used for years. The intention being to sample some vinyl into my own music. This turned into a bit of a mission as I had to take take the deck apart & resolder a lead that was buzzing.
I thought I'd mark its recommission with 'something special'. So I flipped open one of the record boxes & flipped throught the s's - I was thinking of something groovy like Sly & The Family Stone... randomly I pulled out ...Dusty - Son of a Preacher Man - & the Dutch picture cover issue at that! I hadn't been into Dusty the last time I had looked in the boxes (1981!) & don't remember it being there - so it came as a real surprise.

I slipped Madame onto the turntable & fired her up at 45rpm - ah.... just like the old days - there was that lovely warm vinyl sound - & great fidelity...

Unfortunately my reverie was short lived as something was horribly wrong with the orchestra & then Dusty - who kind of dragged herself up to to the mic & slurred her way thru 'Just a Little Lovin' like she'd combined gender reassigment with a fistful of Valium........ to an accompanying smell that soon filled the room............

Seems more intensive deck refurbishment is in order..... a new drive belt I think.. I won't hold it against Dusty though - at least she showed up and the resulting chaos seemed somehow appropriate.. [:D]

Thanks - it doesn't read back as being that exciting - but I guess you had to be there!

I Googled a belt for Dual - (mine is a 505-2) the other day & I came up with this ebay link - but haven't had time to do any more research as of yet. If I find anything better I will let you know.

One tip leads to another - thanks Tim.
I know what you mean about being funnier if you were there. After my divorce all I had left for entertainment was a 19" B/W portable TV. I was dozing on the couch one evening during a storm watching "Combat".
(a WW-2 series starring Vic Morrow) Suddenly lightning struck, and thunder boomed as a bomb went off in the middle of their battle, my TV went ZAP, and a puff of blue smoke rolled out the back all against a blackened screen! I was instantaneously lifted off the couch in shear terror.
None of that has anything to do with Dusty, but it was one of those funnier if you there.

I didn't hear it yesterday but in the past when Dusty has been played on his show, I've always felt it was down to his sidekick (whose name I can't remember right now), he usually has more to say about her and sometimes even brings up her name in to other conversations, once saying that he would expect Dusty to always be voted best female singer in this country.
