YOUR DUSTY SONG OF THE MOMENT

Postby Chris66 » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:50 am

Is there a particular Dusty song that you are listening to at the moment. I listen to songs again and often find something new ( maybe a drum roll ) now that I have many Dusty songs on my MP3 player even more so.

This week's most listened to for me is JUST ONE SMILE

I loved Gene Pitney's original but Dusty's version is superb

Cheers

Strangely enough it's 'In the winter' for me right now. Strange timing, I know. I'm fascinated how she expresses feelings of profound loneliness and despair with very little means, it's all held in check and only just ripples the very composed surface.

In a way, this is the "dark sibling" of Look of Love, which Burt Bacharach has described as "held in check, but underneath it's smouldering".

Hi Corinna,
I never thought of those two songs in that way. I do like IN THE WINTER but I have never had the feelings about the song that you and other forum members have expressed. I will listen to it again !

Now GOIN BACK has always filled me with so many feelings from the moment I first heard heard it.

Oh yes, Goin' back.... <3 When I heard it the very first time, I couldn't believe Dusty was only 26 or 27 at the time she recorded it. So much wisdom and also a little resignation expressed in this song like it was sung by someone with much more life experience. And of course, knowing that it was played at her funeral adds a more sombre note to it too.

Love "Goin Back " obviously some sadness attached to it now. At the moment my overplayed song is" I Just Fall In Love Again " [:)] , don't ask me why.

It seems like I copy what other people have written(Cor) but I have also been listening to "In The Winter" very much recently! This song is almost new to me [:I] and I really like it  so sad, and it expresses loneliness so good I think :pensive:
Another - totally different - song I'm listening to now is "Don't Call It Love". I think Dusty sounds so cool [8D] here and I like the arrangement of the song :note:

right now the Dusty song I keep listening to is "Reputation".
really...who cares what they're whispering!!!!

@Helen- I recently got "Sometimes Like Butterflies". I love the song, and despite the vocal problems near the end, I think we can get past all the Hippodrome/Stringfellow bad memories and allow Dusty's passionate performance to take it's rightful place along the rest of her work. Listen to her wail when she comes off the break, near the end of the song (before her voice starts giving way...)

Have to agree Markus, I love 'Sometimes Like Butterflies.' sadly underated.

My song of the moment is @Never Love Again.' for no particular reason other than I love it.

Which too lines, Carole? And was this related to your Corrie! trip?

Lately I've been fond of I FOUND LOVE WITH YOU (is that the right name?) Also a very underrated song IMHO.

Maybe subconsciously it was Nancy! "She came up from London on the midnight train".....then I jump to "she told them all she'd never had her ticket punched before". Please let it not be there tonight.

At the moment for me, it's two.

"I Only Wanna Be With You" (the stereo version)
Such an extremely exuberant song and always makes me smile

And "Can I Get a Witness?" Where she does the song better than Marvin Gaye, IMO. Such passion!!

Bosseh- I told my friend Vince in California you posted this, and he laughed. But even he had to admit, it's a fun song. Dusty is really reaching for some notes at certain points. [;)]

I'm amazed she sang this live- according to Paul Howes, she sang it on Dinah!

now that i think about it, this song was the only one on the It Begins Againpoll to get zero votes. Or at least it was- let me doublecheck... :?

Sweet (trainless) dreams, Carole. [;)]

Markus, it's those fool/schoolgirl lines that are really on the repeat track in my mind. Wouldn't it be great to see that Dinah footage! [:o]

:rose: [8D] :rose:
Actually I think mine is a CD of the moment. I keep the Rhino compilation Love Songs in my car, and play it on the commute to and from work. Several songs grab me. Richest Girl Alive is like a jingle. Can't explain why I like it, but I do. Then she hypnotizes me with The Colour of Your Eyes it has a joyous meloncholy to it. I love Dusty's timing when she's doing jazz, and Meditation really does it for me.
Where will I find this song In the Winter? I'm sure I don't have it anywhere, nor have I heard it.
Could someone give us a link ? :note: [ear] :note:
