What a lovely surprise! A few stock answers we've heard before but lots of thoughts from Dusty as she relaxed into the interview. [;)] <3

Well this was lovely to find. At last someone who treated her like an adult. Its just so sad to see her constant lack of thinking she was any good.
So introspective and self critical . Her constant self analysis must have been so difficult for her to live with each day, hence the downward spiral I suppose.
You can see how difficult it was for her to go on stage and as Pat Rhodes has said she would run the other way if she could.
We must be grateful she made it as we have had a lifetime with her but the personal cost was sadly all too evident.
I so wish she was still here and could see how loved she was as a lasting star.
She was just wonderful. :star: <3

Many Hank's for uploading the whole of this interview.

A very interesting listen and it gives quite an insight into her as a person and as an artist.
I would like to think in her later years she knew just how much she had achieved and how much she was loved.

Thanks everyone, but all the kudos should go to Valda and Donella for sourcing the interview.

Paul Howes states Dusty did not duet with Tina Turner, but with Inez Foxx......

UPDATE! It's been confirmed that it is Tina Turner NOT Inez Foxx. Paul Howes admitted his error sometime ago. In any future reprint this will be corrected. Thanks to all who helped me out here :bravo: <3

Right. I'm very confused here. The 'bible' does indeed say that it's Inez Foxx. However I hear TT! In an earlier posting by Darren where he says it's IF Simon Bell goes on record that it's TT! Who's right?

BTW, I already have an mp3 as DS & IF but I forgot. Duh!

ImageWell Dusty's definitely doing something onstage with Tina Turner - not to mention Ike (which I suspect Tina would prefer!). I did check to see who else graced the RSG broadcast of 14 October 1966 to determine which performances got precedence over this diva duet but the only guest ID'd online besides Dusty (who sang All I See is You) is Paul Jones (singing his most successful solo hit High Time) (obviously the guest list is incomplete - even Ike & Tina aren't mentioned). It seems logical that Ike & Tina would have performed their take on Martha & the Vandellas' A Love Like Yours as the Turners' version was their current UK single: of course twelve years later Dusty's version would be the first single from It Begins Again.

Apparently Tina's appearance on RSG led to her pal-ing around London with the show's producer Vicki Wickham, including a visit to a fortune teller whose cards revealed that "Tina was destined to be among the biggest stars in the galaxy [while] her partner [would] fall away like a dead leaf falling from a tree" (so stated in Mark Bego's 2003 bio Tina Turner: Break Every Rule).

I checked too for an artist list for 14th Oct 1966 but like you found that only Dusty & Paul were mentioned. It's such a pity that this clip is all there is.

Thanks for doing the digging humboldt, Frans and Sweetbaby, Sorry I am so late in replying, as I have just seen this. From my point of view when I originally posted the song Land Of a Thousand Dances I lazily just went by the information given in The Complete Dusty Springfield. Also in my defence it was also stated to be Inez Foxx on the CD I had copied it from, and I hadn't heard enough of Inez at this time to know if it was her singing or not. About a year ago (I think) it came to light that it was Tina Turner. Anyway a week or so ago I thought I would revamp it after someone said it would do better perhaps with Tina's name on the title and boy were they right. I havent deleted or edited the original post, it may confuse things even more. [;)]

I got this reply from Paul Howes after a couple of friends had helped me.

I looked into this several years ago and it's definitely Tina Turner. Back in 1966, for some unknown reason I scribbled Inez Foxx on my reel-to-reel tape box, never considering the possibility that I might have to refer to it for a book that was to come 40+ years later. I can only think that maybe Inez and Charlie Foxx were billed for the 14 October edition, otherwise where did I get it from? Ike and Tina were billed for the 30 September edition so maybe Dusty prerecorded a duet with Tina then, although Tina wore dark glasses for that show which she does not wear in the photo with Dusty. So maybe they revisited the show two weeks later. Who knows? On the night of the 14th they were appearing with the Rolling Stones but of course by then RSG was no longer live and was probably prerecorded on the Wednesday. In the end, all a waste of time as they only broadcast a snippet.

I have already rectified this (drawing attention to the error in previous editions) in the updated (and illustrated) Complete Dusty due for publication next year.

I see this is being discussed on LTD, which is possibly what prompted you to write, so you can cut and paste what I've written if that makes it easier.

The 'bible'? I wish it had sold as many copies.

All the best

Paul

Ike & Tina Turner are indeed verified as guests for the September 30 1966 Ready Steady Go broadcast - this shot from which of Tina in a distinct outfit from that worn onstage with Dusty seeming to preclude Dusty's having then dropped by for a surprise cameo. But if as indicated Tina's scheduled RSG appearance led to her "hanging out" with the show's producer Vicki Wickham, it's at least possible that a somewhat informal arrangement was reached between Tina and Vicki for Ike & Tina to drop by RSG a couple of weeks after their scheduled gig. And if the duet with Dusty was to some degree impromptu, that might well have factored into why the number proved impossible to fit into the show's running time.

Many Thanks to SeeAllHerFaces /memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1186 for sourcing this piece from River Deep Mountain High, a Biography of Tina Turner, it would seem to fit in nicely with Sweetbabys scedule of events.
