I don't know how many of you know, or remember, the great dancer Barrie Chase (An Evening With Fred Astaire in 1958 made her a star) but I found something that is interesting. It's The Hollywood Palace from February 1 1969 and Barrie sings (flatly - bless) and dances to SOAP. Given the date of this broadcast I'll bet this was the first cover of the song on US TV. The segment starts at 12:22:

Now give yourselves a real treat and watch Barrie with Fred:

After posting Linda's latest video of "Corner of the Sky", I noticed on the thumbnails at the end "The Bluebettes". Looking further on youtube I found more. I assume they are a Dutch group. Not bad for a girl group of an uncertain age!.

You beat me to it Samuel! I have seen it before, someone I know has a copy but I'd forgotten all about it. It's an odd little film and I'd love to know where and when (as usual!) but always lovely to have some new footage to look at [:D]

Odd yes, But Dusty is SO cute!

I thought maybe it was the Dutch museum mentioned above or the other one pictured where she's wearing that crazy dress, but neither of them looks right.'

The pink top and mini skirt with long necklaces remind me of her look when Mary Ann met her in LA. Of course, no wig in that clip.

Comparing the video towards the end, with the photo below from the 60's, I'm almost sure now that it was filmed at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Dusty obviously liked that skirt, she was wearing it when I met her in Blackpool in 66 and in the park in Sydney in 67. I think this may have been filmed in November 1967.

I think when those 70's photos first appeared Nancy, it was said it was likely the LA Museum of Art too. At the end of this video, she appears to be outside the front of the building, maybe the 70's one is an inner courtyard.

Various radio performances and audio versions of TV performances have been posted on You Tube recently by Darren Castairs. Here is Dusty's version of So Used To Loving You, a Sonny Curtis song, from Saturday Club of 6 June 1964. I must confess I have no recollection of it.

There's one thing bugging me about the colourisation. I am sure I have seen a publicity shot from the Dutch TV show and the photo was in colour. I am pretty sure that the dress was very pale mauve or lilac, which would be more like Dusty's choice of colour. Or am I just going gaga...aargh!

It was pinkish, there are quite a few colour photos of it about, that's why the green puzzled me.

A word of warning to the unwary and those of a sensitive disposition, who might go searching for Dusty material on You Tube. Over the last ten days someone has been 'bombing' You Tube with videos described as being Dusty material. These uploads tend to tend to start with images of a soft porn nature followed by a video of Chinese singers. Tagged on to these is the Dusty material, which had previously been available on You Tube, having been uploaded by others.

I don't know if this is some form of hacking from China or the work of an individual prankster. You Tube has already taken down the first wave of uploads. However, another large batch was uploaded last night

Don't go rushing to You Tube. In a spirit of service to the LTD community, I have already checked the material, so that you don't have to.

This has recently been uploaded to Vimeo by another LTD member, who won't post it himself. It's been on some of the Dusty facebook sites but in case this one has passed you by it's from a 1966 French tv performance of 'All I See is You'. It was new to me when I saw it but believe it has been on Youtube before.

That is interesting.....I was due to go to Paris in 1966 not long after AISIY was released but had to cancel due to Jaundice...................my friends still went. They were passing by a small club and heard Dusty singing...............they popped in and Dusty was rehearsing for a TV performance later in the evening. They went back later and watched her live! I was upset then I can tell you.
She should have recorded the french version " Je ne vois que tois".............I have it by Richard Anthony

Hi Frans and Graham,
It seems likely that this is the French 1966 performance Graham is referring to. There was quite a discussion about what it was Dusty seems to be throwing at the beginning of it over on one of the Facebook discussion pages. I agree, Dusty should have recorded this one in French (one of those 'if only' things and I have a lot of those with Dusty songs and non-Dusty songs that I think she would have improved :) ). I don't Richard Anthony and on that showing (it's not awful) I probably will stick to Dusty. I'm reminded of Fançoise Hardy's cover of Dusty's own 'Once Upon a Time',

It was the Los Angeles County Museum of Art 5905 Wilshire Blvd, where Dusty did this photo shoot several years later (notice the paving in the forecourt at the end of the video):

Thanks for putting this gem up, Darren! And I didn't spot that slight trip either

Dusty didn't seem too impressed by the art, though, did she? And she didn't know what to do with her hands!

I was at the LACMA earlier this year, actually looking for the spot of the '70s photo shoot, but of course, everything has changed now. Thanks for finding a photo from the appropriate time, Carole!

Beautiful! Never heard this song before, thank you for sharing Frans.
Do you know anything about the releases of this song? I can only find it on a single as you wrote, but does it appear on any Tom Springfield album too?

I can hardly find any information about the single, Lisette. I bought the 45 from a guy in the UK, who at first was reluctant selling to someone outside the UK. I'm glad I could persuade him in the end!

It didn't appear on any of the two albums Tom made. Sun Songs is from 1968, Love's Philosophy is from 1969......

Well this was lovely to find. At last someone who treated her like an adult. Its just so sad to see her constant lack of thinking she was any good.
So introspective and self critical . Her constant self analysis must have been so difficult for her to live with each day, hence the downward spiral I suppose.
You can see how difficult it was for her to go on stage and as Pat Rhodes has said she would run the other way if she could.
We must be grateful she made it as we have had a lifetime with her but the personal cost was sadly all too evident.
I so wish she was still here and could see how loved she was as a lasting star.
She was just wonderful. :star: <3

Many Hank's for uploading the whole of this interview.

A very interesting listen and it gives quite an insight into her as a person and as an artist.
I would like to think in her later years she knew just how much she had achieved and how much she was loved.

UPDATE! It's been confirmed that it is Tina Turner NOT Inez Foxx. Paul Howes admitted his error sometime ago. In any future reprint this will be corrected. Thanks to all who helped me out here :bravo: <3

Right. I'm very confused here. The 'bible' does indeed say that it's Inez Foxx. However I hear TT! In an earlier posting by Darren where he says it's IF Simon Bell goes on record that it's TT! Who's right?

BTW, I already have an mp3 as DS & IF but I forgot. Duh!

Re: Look what I just found on You Tube.....

ImageWell Dusty's definitely doing something onstage with Tina Turner - not to mention Ike (which I suspect Tina would prefer!). I did check to see who else graced the RSG broadcast of 14 October 1966 to determine which performances got precedence over this diva duet but the only guest ID'd online besides Dusty (who sang All I See is You) is Paul Jones (singing his most successful solo hit High Time) (obviously the guest list is incomplete - even Ike & Tina aren't mentioned). It seems logical that Ike & Tina would have performed their take on Martha & the Vandellas' A Love Like Yours as the Turners' version was their current UK single: of course twelve years later Dusty's version would be the first single from It Begins Again.

Apparently Tina's appearance on RSG led to her pal-ing around London with the show's producer Vicki Wickham, including a visit to a fortune teller whose cards revealed that "Tina was destined to be among the biggest stars in the galaxy [while] her partner [would] fall away like a dead leaf falling from a tree" (so stated in Mark Bego's 2003 bio Tina Turner: Break Every Rule).

I checked too for an artist list for 14th Oct 1966 but like you found that only Dusty & Paul were mentioned. It's such a pity that this clip is all there is.

Thanks for doing the digging humboldt, Frans and Sweetbaby, Sorry I am so late in replying, as I have just seen this. From my point of view when I originally posted the song Land Of a Thousand Dances I lazily just went by the information given in The Complete Dusty Springfield. Also in my defence it was also stated to be Inez Foxx on the CD I had copied it from, and I hadn't heard enough of Inez at this time to know if it was her singing or not. About a year ago (I think) it came to light that it was Tina Turner. Anyway a week or so ago I thought I would revamp it after someone said it would do better perhaps with Tina's name on the title and boy were they right. I havent deleted or edited the original post, it may confuse things even more. [;)]

I got this reply from Paul Howes after a couple of friends had helped me.

I looked into this several years ago and it's definitely Tina Turner. Back in 1966, for some unknown reason I scribbled Inez Foxx on my reel-to-reel tape box, never considering the possibility that I might have to refer to it for a book that was to come 40+ years later. I can only think that maybe Inez and Charlie Foxx were billed for the 14 October edition, otherwise where did I get it from? Ike and Tina were billed for the 30 September edition so maybe Dusty prerecorded a duet with Tina then, although Tina wore dark glasses for that show which she does not wear in the photo with Dusty. So maybe they revisited the show two weeks later. Who knows? On the night of the 14th they were appearing with the Rolling Stones but of course by then RSG was no longer live and was probably prerecorded on the Wednesday. In the end, all a waste of time as they only broadcast a snippet.

I have already rectified this (drawing attention to the error in previous editions) in the updated (and illustrated) Complete Dusty due for publication next year.

I see this is being discussed on LTD, which is possibly what prompted you to write, so you can cut and paste what I've written if that makes it easier.

The 'bible'? I wish it had sold as many copies.

All the best

Paul

Ike & Tina Turner are indeed verified as guests for the September 30 1966 Ready Steady Go broadcast - this shot from which of Tina in a distinct outfit from that worn onstage with Dusty seeming to preclude Dusty's having then dropped by for a surprise cameo. But if as indicated Tina's scheduled RSG appearance led to her "hanging out" with the show's producer Vicki Wickham, it's at least possible that a somewhat informal arrangement was reached between Tina and Vicki for Ike & Tina to drop by RSG a couple of weeks after their scheduled gig. And if the duet with Dusty was to some degree impromptu, that might well have factored into why the number proved impossible to fit into the show's running time.
