The Celia Hammond Animal Trust

Postby JohnHarding » Thu Jan 12, 2017 5:19 pm

I have been in contaact with the trust over the past few days; members have made donations specifically naming the animal charity as their preferred fund, and it seems like it is time to sponsor one (or possibly more) cats for a year. I have been sent the attached link, which when followed will take you to photographs of the current batch of cats needing sponsorship, which costs GBP20 per cat for a year.
When I saw the names of the cats, there was one (obviously) which stood out - Brian seems like he was destined for us! I also particularly admire the look of Eden. Since one donor alone gave more than enough to cover both cats, I'm suggesting that the group sponsors both for a year. That still leaves some money in the fund should one or more possibly urgent case(s) arise.
I'd be interested to hear strong opinions from anyone who has them - and if a different cat appeals, please say so, though I'm very much sold on the idea of definitely supporting Brian in memory of Brian Fidler.

I'll proceed on the basis I have suggested this coming Sunday in the absence of any other recommendations.

With best wishes to everyone,

John

Oh great, I want them all! I'm happy with your two choices though John, definitely Brian, it's like he was waiting for us and the human Eden was a good pal to Dusty I believe, so a nice connection there too. x

Very happy with your sponsoring suggestions, John! <3

How anyone can abandon their pet, and especially beautiful cats like these, is beyond me.

This is just a thought, remember "Mr Brown" who we sponsored in 2013. Well he appears to still be at CHAT.
He's on the current list for sponsorship.

The Celia Hammond Animal Trust

Postby JohnHarding » Mon Jan 23, 2017 8:56 pm

I've received the following acknowledgement and fact sheets in relation to the two cats, Brian and Eden, which donations made it possible for the group to sponsor for the next 12 months. I've also received two sweatshirts, 2 pens, and 2 key rings which I shall bring to Dusty Day this year in case anyone would like to make a small donation to secure a set.

Warm regards,

John

(P.S. for Pat - I am still waiting for a response in relation to the query you raised - I have not forgotten.)

The Celia Hammond Animal Trust

Postby JohnHarding » Thu Jan 18, 2018 1:44 pm

Hi everyone.

It is almost a year now since I posted about the sponsorship, in Dusty's memory, of two cats at Celia Hammond's Animal Trust (CHAT) in the UK. I have recently been in touch with the Trust, and have the following updates.

The two cats you sponsored this past year have different outlooks. Eden appears to have found willing adopters, and is expected to leave the sanctuary soon. Brian, sadly, is said to be nearing the end of his life, though is being kept as comfortable as possible. As a result, both animals are no longer available for sponsorship.

Two new cats have been offered, and I can do better than to quote the message I have received from the Trust.

"Thank you for your call today asking about our sponsor cats. Attached are pictures of two of our sponsor cats Bluebell and Tim. Bluebell has been living at Greenacres Sanctuary for years and acts like she owns the place. She is quite friendly with visitors and enjoys a good stroke. Tim is a new sponsor addition this year. He is quite mischievous and likes to discover new places to snooze. He doesn’t wander too far from the kitchen where the cat food is stored. He is less keen on people than Bluebell but is a happy cat nonetheless.

Please do get in touch if the members of ‘Let’s Talk Dusty’ would like to sponsor them. Thank you for your support."

Bluebell is the long haired grey cat in the attached photo; Tim is the ginger tom.

Many donors specify that the funds they donate should be used for CHAT, and I am therefore proposing to sponsor both animals for the coming year at a cost of GBP60 in total (we have sufficient funds to do this, of course).

I hope those here in the UK are safe in the face of last night's dreadful weather.

Best wishes,

John

I am more than happy for you to go ahead here John, they are both beautiful cats and I particularly love a Ginger tom having had Hobie, a wonderful character for many years. I'm sure Dusty would be delighted that we can do this.

So glad we are able to still sponsor CHAT. Bluebell reminds me a little of Nicholas, so Dusty would definitely approve. Go for it John.
