Hi Clive, something odd is happening. I posted a reply to his earlier but it's disappeared! Anyway I'll try again.

2. Which US singer has hit #1 as a solo artist, duo & trio?

Diana Ross? You are correct but it was not the answer I was looking for. My fault as I did not specify the UK which gives a different answer.

8. Which now iconic song did Dusty want to record but the writers said no?
Ain't No mountain high Enough. Correct. I do wish that she had recorded it.

6. Who were the artists that had the first posthumous #1 in the US and the last in the UK?

Buddy Holly? George Harrison? Sorry Clive, not even close.

17. Who is Elaine Bookbinder better known as?

Elkie Brooks. Correct

18. Who is the 1st lady of Motown?

Mary Wells? No but until 2 weeks ago that's the answer I would have given.

21. What is the connection between Frank Ifield & Dusty?

Did they both record Summer is Over? Correct

24. Who were the only artists to have a #1 hit on both sides of the Atlantic but never have another hit in Billboard or the UK Top 100? Name artist and song please?

Zager & Evans, In the year 2525? Correct

Clive 6 points :bravo:

Hi QM,
I appeal on my answer to Q25.
God save the Queen (Sex Pistols) reached No 2 in 1977( silver jubilee) and was banned by BBC. Subsequently it was re released 2012 (Diamond) allowed by BBC,
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be.......
..I'm goin' back.

Sorry Pat, the question has nothing to do with 'God Save The Queen' or any other record. Nor does it have anything to do with both being banned by the BBC. So what happened to ‘Je t'aime... moi non plus’ after it reached #2 in the UK in 1969? It was something very strange that I don't think ever happened before or since!

Sorry Carole, good effort though.

The former C&W singer is massive world wide. The song was only a minor hit in the US and is unknown in the UK. The singer that it's named after is huge in the US but has had very little chart success in the UK. None of the artists solo singles have cracked the UK Top 50 but a duet with an artist of a totally different genre reached #1!

I have already given a clue to Q1. Will post clues to the other 4 later.

The remaining clues.

5. Which US group with a new line up made the Top 10 with their first single but failed to chart in the UK with their second single but went on to have further Top 10 hits? Group & title please

Clue. The new line up was to replace the former lead singer who had left to pursue what was a very successful solo career.

7. Which UK female singer had a total flop before her final Top 10 hit? Names please.

Clue. It was sandwiched between a #20 & a #3.

16. Who were the artists that had the first posthumous #1 in the US and the last in the UK?

Clue. The US artist died in a plane crash. The artist in the UK was an American singer who died of cancer.

19. Who is allegedly supposed to have slipped on a fish at one of Dusty’s party’s?

Clue. A Motown singer but not Martha.

20. Which UK singer did Victoria Wood suggest would have been in the cabinet if she had lived?

Clue. A female singer who was oven mentioned in Victoria Wood sketches with a great deal of ‘tongue in cheek’.

The answers to the remaining questions.

1. Which former US C&W artist first hit was the name of another US C&W artist and what was the name?

Clue. The former C&W singer is massive worldwide. The song was only a minor hit in the US and is unknown in the UK. The singer that it's named after is huge in the US but has had very little chart success in the UK. None of the artists solo singles have cracked the UK Top 50 but a duet with an artist of a totally different genre reached #1!

Answer. Singer Taylor Swift who switched genres from C&W to pop a couple of albums ago. Song ‘Tim McGraw’.

5. Which US group with a new line up made the Top 10 with their first single but failed to chart in the UK with their second single but went on to have further Top 10 hits? Group & title please.

Clue. The new line up was to replace the former lead singer who had left to pursue what was a very successful solo career.

Answer. Supremes with new lead singer Jean Terrell. Song ‘Everybody’s Got The Right To Love’.

16. Who were the artists that had the first posthumous #1 in the US and the last in the UK?

Clue. The US artist died in a plane crash. The artist in the UK was an American singer who died of cancer.

Answer. First US Otis Redding & last UK Eva Cassidy.

20. Which UK singer did Victoria Wood suggest would have been in the cabinet if she had lived?

Clue. A female singer who was oven mentioned in Victoria Wood sketches with a great deal of ‘tongue in cheek’.

Answer. Alma Cogan who was often mentioned in Vic’s sketches. One in particular is where she asks the question ‘if she had lived do you think that Alma Cogan would have been in the cabinet’.

Thanks to all who took part.

Wally is the overall winner but the fact that you had fun and took part makes you all winners in my eyes.
